windermereROYAL The number 9 bus that travels from the station to green park station is my new way of travelling to the games, it passes very close to my home and drops off at South oak way (Costco) that`s a short 5 minute walk to the ground.
It`s been my intention to go home on the return journey from the bus stop opposite at 16.57, just need to leave the JMS at 16.50 even if it means missing injury time but it will save me a 40 minute walk home.
Well that was the plan anyway, left the stadium, turned right only to find the gates locked and stewards telling me there was no access,
I suppose it`s to stop the home fans mixing with the away fans even though 2000 C1871 fans leave that way.
I was hacked off, a 40 minute walk home again in that heat.

It’s only been like that for 20 years !

Based on the route of the number 9 bus, I'm guessing you're going to Witley Wood or Witley - neither have an obvious alternative bus-wise.

There's a stop called 'Reading Stadium' on the number 9 bus route - which is between the two roundabouts at the bottom of the hill outside the South Stand and is the next stop along to (and slightly closer than) the Costco stop and is scheduled to leave at 16:58.

Google reckons it's around 800m (10mins 30 secs) from the middle of the East Stand to that stop (going the long way around the stadium). Based on your time estimate to get to the Costco stop, I reckon you would do it faster than Google suggests by around two minutes (and that's without trying to walk faster).

Assuming the bus isn't affected by any of the shuttles (IIRC, it would be either the F2 and F3 from that stop), that may be a little more achievable than aiming for the Costco stop before it (albeit not significantly). It's slightly closer, you'd have a scheduled extra minute to get to it and it's possible it will be delayed with football supporters getting on at the previous stops; you would have to make it very clear to the driver you're not waiting on the shuttles though.

I would've thought Reading Buses would want to delay that specific bus to align with people leaving the ground, but maybe it messes up scheduling for the following buses.

Reasonable chance with the rain that has fallen/is still due to fall that the footbridge is likely to be flooded making it unusable for the 21's match tomorrow & Saturday.

Green Park security have put up signs saying the walkway is closed due to high water levels however the footbridge isn't flooded yet. Anymore heavy rain this weekend and I'm sure it will be.

As I'm getting mullered tomorrow and drinking most of the day, I'm considering travel options.

I usually get nags head bus but want to get to ground to watch Amazons.

So what's the best way:

1) normal football bus (good but queues getting back are annoying)

2) a non-football bus that drops you off on Basingstoke road

3) green park - I'm arriving into ding station so could hop very easily on the green park train. I know it's about a 20 minute walk to ground

Remember the return too, so what's easiest with crowds and best

Get the mereoak bus number 600, run every 15 minutes, drops you on the relief road just across from the business park. having said that you`ll probably need to get a football bus back because you`ll need to walk back up to opposite Kennet island/the Hilton, and there`s always quite a queue there. probably more so tomorrow, might be easier to walk up to Basingstoke road.

I'm getting the train to town. You want me to bring a bike too?

Beautiful weather, so I'll be walking from the station to the ground and back along the river. About 50 minutes.

Just a suggestion.

If you’d rather queue for the back to town bus or walk back to town. I took my bike from Cardiff to Reading on the train so I could cycle to a mate’s 40th at the Jazz cafe in the Madejski.

I think I'm getting the 6 bus down to Hartland Road and then walk from there

So, what length of time does it take from GPS to the SCL? This may be a better option than the football buses.

That`s a slow walk, can easily do it in 15.

Not everyone walks at the same speed. Sounds like it’s about a mile.

It's 0.85 miles. 15 minutes walk as others have said.

Used it a couple of times, and it's a cheaper than the F1. Excellent if you're based in West Reading or beyond. But also been let down by cancelled trains and the train timetable doesn't always sync with the match timings.
