It's a no-brainer if we didn't have to pay for unused tickets. So, we must have had to have paid for any unsold tickets - that's what I meant.

in fact, if the tickets were, as per the FA website, on sale or return - why on earth wouldn't we have asked for about 5k - and just sent back the ones we didn't use (LOL).

The 2800 was an initial batch, the club are saying they left it too late to get any more (ie by Wednesday last week), because they didnt see a need for them at that stage. Because nobody had thought of the free travel.

Unbelievable.

Then heads should roll - one way or the other! If there is no risk to the club on how many tickets you ask for (which, actually, I don't think is true, I think you do have to pay for unused tickets) then why not ask 5k as your "initial" allocation?

And why ask for more on the Wednesday (allegedly too late) if we didn't even know if we'd sell all the 2,800 at that time? And how could Wednesday be "too late" if it was the day AFTER you have to say what you want as an initial allocation?

The rules say you have to say how many tickets you want on the day of notification of the game - ie last Tuesday night - there is nothing in the rules I've seen that even mention "initial allocations" - you ask for how many total tickets you want.

If Man City were to blame, don't you think the club would be using this excuse and reporting them to the FA if so?

It's at the home club's discretion - so no way of being sure. Usually if they think they will sell the tickets they'll make them sale or return (as Chelsea would have done) but it really is down to how the home club feels about it.

Royal Lady And why ask for more on the Wednesday (allegedly too late) if we didn't even know if we'd sell all the 2,800 at that time? And how could Wednesday be "too late" if it was the day AFTER you have to say what you want as an initial allocation?

Pass - only too late if Man City weren't prepared to hold off selling the areas in question.

Royal Lady The rules say you have to say how many tickets you want on the day of notification of the game - ie last Tuesday night - there is nothing in the rules I've seen that even mention "initial allocations" - you ask for how many total tickets you want.

We certainly could have had 15% but we'd certainly have had to pay for them all. This is balancing of risk vs demand (and getting it wrong). This has happened many many times before with other clubs - they minimise their financial risk.

Royal Lady If Man City were to blame, don't you think the club would be using this excuse and reporting them to the FA if so?

No, I don't think that scenario applies - no way have Man City broken any rules here. They may have refused to hold tickets for RFC while RFC assessed demand, but they are perfectly entitled to do so - the initial and later allocations aren't in the rules, they're common sense ways that clubs co-operate to ensure maxiumum income, but they don't assume only 6 days' notice of a match.

You know the club will get away with this...

Come Monday morning, and the result will indeed save the club.

Win- Everyones busy planning trips to Wembley, the club learn and plenty of tickets available.
Draw - Everyone gets to go to the replay! Shame only 17,000 actually end up showing up. But people are at this stage thankful our club are run by idiots, cos its saved theme £15.
Lose- Saved money, cheers Reading.

Not that the club should get away with this. I have a ticket and am annoyed, cos I miss out on travelling up with my pals.

This club is run by polished turds.

Cheers Dirk - I was talking to myself really, trying to work out where it has gone wrong.

I still think asking for 5k tickets (which wouldn't even be 15% I don't think) wasn't that big a gamble.

But, it's too late now - though questions should be asked of those in charge at the club over this fiasco, imo.

Man City online ticket site is busy as hell, limited availablity in the lower Tiers next to the Reading fans, 116 almost gone about 20 left there, similar in 111,and they have only been on general sale for an hour, I can see them opening the 3rd tiers at this rate, seems Man City got it all wrong too. Won't be much chance of home seats for Reading fans at this rate.

I have my own solution to all this hassle. Assume the game is not being played so ignore it and turn up next week at Barnsley instead.
If the cretins at the FA could organise their precious competition properly and were not in thrall to television this could have all been sorted out a couple of weeks ago.

So, what's your opinion then? You think this 2,800 allocation is fair and just? :|

fairness and justice arent really something the world is obliged to supply.
i think that with the short time to sort it out, with man city not doing sale or return, you can see why the club did it. the free transport sounds like a one off personal gesture from JM, and as such its understandable that it came out of the blue.and man city selling the blocks around us straight away, may mean we miss out on getting more.
but we dont know what will happen, we may sell out on monday, get another block on tuesday, or we may not. and that is upsetting- especiially since ill miss out with the rest of you, i just dont think there is always someone to blame when life is shit.
i just dont think our home/away crowd record really merited them going balls deep for the full allocation without some serious thought.we didnt even sell out Vs villa at home last year did we?

Spoken to a friend of mine who is responsible for all retail and marketing at the Walkers Stadium, including the ticket office.

He says the complications are caused by Man City closing their upper tiers for cup games. It's like a club with a 46,000 capacity moving to a 30,000 capacity to hold this game.
In saying that the club still need to offer an away allocation of the full capacity of the ground, a minimum of 15%.

In his opinion both clubs would have reached an agreement on the allocation with Reading stating how many they thought they would sell with a response from Man City along the lines of ' are you sure as we will sell the other tickets to our own fans '

Reading have covered their backs and not had to pay for tickets that they won't sell and City have covered there backs and only needed to give a standard league allocation to away fans, thus minimalising the need to move even more fans from those in the top tiers.

He said that this seems to be a joint decision which due to unseen demand from Man City and unseen demand from Reading due to free travel has now back fired. He also stated that the opening of the top tiers is not impossible but becomes unlikely as the club will have very little time to liase with policing requirements etc.

That'll be why it is so busy on their ticketing site, it is all the Royals fans with 600 to 1599 Royalty points making sure they get a ticket!!

Basically, it's been one almighty COCK-UP with no one person or club to blame; the situation is a victim of circumstance and we need to put that behind us; whoever gets tickets has to go to Eastlands and get behind the team as well as they can in an artificially reduced capacity stadium and then we can all look forward to a couple of days out in north London :)

c'mon Reading.
