RG30 So what happens if we get relegated next season (apologies for the negative thought) but question that will get asked sooner or later. Do the club continue with the redevelopment having budgeted for it or do they delay again?

I would think they would still go ahead with the East Stand, but shelves the North and South Stands until we returned to the top flight. That's my opinion of it anyway.

Delighted with the artist impressions. Just ever so slightly despondent that we have to wait another 2 years before we'll see the new East Stand.

Who was it that mentioned the bricks had all gone and what about all those that have bought one - they're clearly still there!

Looks like the pedestrian access from this direction will be as crap as it ever was.

IF we stick to those drawings, and I hope we do because it looks very impressive, there will be no gap for light or air to get through the stands as it is now.
This though will help keep the noise in the bowl!

What pedestrian access ?

All those who can;t afford the car park will be bussed in or get the train to Green Park - they won't allow anyone to actually walk to our nice new ground.....

The pedestrian access at the moment is so bad that everyone takes shorts cut and walks on the roads. This means buses take longer to leave as well as the car.The expansion should include wide access so that the roads remain clear at times.

Next summer, next summer, well thats it then, it ain't gonna happen. This time next year we'll be relegated, Mr Mad would have left and the expansion will be nothing more than dusty old plans left in some architects back office (In Wolverhampton). Come on guys strike whilst the irons hot. Big boo's to Wokingham Bourgh Council, we could have been 3 weeks into the work already if it hadn't been for them.

Even if Wokingham hadn't lodged an objection, the preparotory works wouldn't have begun yet would they?... And i'm assuming the contruction firm will have had a provisional date left open in their diary, and just need the green light.

T.R.O.L.I.
Daniella Never will we see a celebration to rival the wigan play-off game these days, not with the lack of passion displayed by the modern support.

Leroy's goal against Boro immediately springs to mind.

JC The Reading Borough website has all the plans which clearly show quite a lot of detail. For example there is a disabled area in the East Stand from about Row V to DD roughly and extending across the best part of 3 blocks. It also indicated the new capacity will be 36,900.
As the club have these final plans approved why do they not tell us which seats will be lost

That isn't a disablred area, that's the new hospitality block as discussed earlier on this thread and the STAR forum.

From what I remember, any new disabled areas would be built towards the back of the East Stand.

And at the top of a spiral staircase....

The original planning date was in April and I suspect the Wokingham objection has meant they have a few extra things to think about re the transport so I reckon it's one of those situations where the original timeline was doable but tight and the various things have just tipped it over to being too aggressive to get underway now and be sure of having the site in a fit state for the new season.

JC his one shows there is hospitality, but not with any view of the pitch it would seem. Unless it refers to the disabled supporters.

I must say I think it odd to build a disabled section anywhere other than at ground level

Disabled fans hate to be at ground level - no perspective, and the slightest thing walking in front will disrupt their view.

Much better is to be higher up, and raised slightly so that even someone standing in front won't get obstruct their view.

That's non-ambulant disabled, of course, but there is a tendency to lump them all into the same category of "disabled".

Latest from the official site

Following Reading Borough Council's decision to approve plans to develop the capacity of Madejski Stadium, the Club have confirmed that work will not begin this summer.

If work got underway now it would cause disruption to existing seats at the start of next season, so construction will begin in the summer of 2008.

Chief Executive Nigel Howe explained, "Although we initially hoped that building work would start this summer, a number of factors have to be addressed before work can begin and we want to make sure the project is carried out properly and not rushed.

"We have said all along that no final decisions had been made on the finer detail of the design, and we will now take our time to make sure that the right decisions are made.

"If we started now, the necessary enabling works would not be completed in time for the start of the season, which means there would be disruption to existing seats and that is something we have always been very keen to avoid.

“As always, we will ensure that our supporters are kept fully informed at every stage of the process.â€

This thread has to be worthy of a sticky?

We'll be coming back to thread every now and then when more information is released by the football club, and then the work starts in 12 months time.

This thread may well run for over 3 years by the time work has finished on all three stands!
