Disagree on their defence. Kimpembe & Varane in the centre are very solid and both are better than our centre backs. Pavard and Hernandez are no mugs either. Kante in the centre who is maybe the best in the world right now at that, goodPogba pushing forward (as opposed to badPogba at Man Utd) and they have the best attack in world football imo.

France haven't wowed so far in this tournament but I don't see a weak area in their team. I can see them really humiliating someone in this tournament.

Not sure Lloris is anywhere near international level anymore but it is getting to him that is the issue, for the reasons you stated. Not many better defensive units in the tournament.

ooh good point on Lloris actually, my mind was on outfield players and I didn't think about him. yeah, Lloris would be their only weak area. Even saying weak seems unfair because he is not really that bad at all.

Yeah weak might be a bit strong. He definitely has a mistake in him though, he could easily let them down. His form has definitely dipped over the last 2 seasons, hasn't looked at all commanding since coming back from his broken elbow. Our best tactic against France might be to play Kane and Calvert-Lewin and chuck some balls in the box for them to win.

If Lloris was English he would still get in the England XI before our keepers though

Not sure that is fair on Pickford, at international level anyway, Always looked good for us on the big stage, made some important saves.

On the plus side, if I'm wrong and France are as good as you all think, we won't have to play them, because they'll beat Portugal and win the group.

So we get Gosens.

And if I'm right and they aren't all that, we either get them or Portugal (or Hungary).

If it's Portugal.....

Germany showed what can be done to Portugal if you play with speed and flair in attack.

We have all the attributes within the squad to do same.

But Southgate won't play the team that can do that as he'll be too focused on stopping them.

Portugal will score against us - we need to select the players who operate on the front foot all the time. Not gung-ho, just fearless.

France will beat Portugal. The Portugese defence isnt good enough.

England will improve against Germany, but i have a suspicion Low will tactically out think Southgate in every department, so unfortunately i think that will be that.

Incidentally i dont understand the pleasure taken in Scotland's exit, would people rather watch a bunch of Croats and Czech's play in the next round, or a group of Scottish players who we perhaps have more of a connection with?

Yes Scotland see us as their rivals, so what. Maybe this "rivalry" is more something for people who grew up in the 80s and early 90s.

Worst team in the group celebrating getting a draw against the best team in the group after a decent performance?

An inferior nation celebrating a 0-0 draw as if they won the competition, their supporters taking shots at England constantly for many years. Fcuk them.

Yes. 100%. oxf*rd 'em.

Also, I much prefer watching players I don't see most weeks play club football - much more interested in watching different nations.

I would celebrate Reading getting a 0-0 away to Chelsea if it kept me in the FA Cup for another week. I dont think Chelsea would hold it against me either.

genome I, for one, can't wait for a week of people insisting we will get smashed by France/Germany/Portugal and then getting mad when we lose.

I would prefer Germany of the three of them, think they can be got at defensively. Want to avoid Portugal like the plague should they get through. They will be hurting after their display against the Germans and won't be that bad again. France are just better than us, we'd have to be very lucky.

I gotta say, I've not been that impressed with France yet. If Hungary can draw against them, we can beat them.

oxf*rd sake, I'm already getting carried away

But I doubt the Chelsea supporters would go out and buy the home shirt of our opponents if we got through to the next round. Scotland supporters did this prior to our semi final with Croatia in 2018, they have always been against England and they deserve nothing but contempt in return.

So I repeat, FCUK THEM.

Yeah, I'm with Nath on this. There's not a chance in hell the Scots would want us to do well, so I ain't going to extend them the courtesy.

France did play that game in slow motion, yes. I think we would set up a similar way to Hungary too so there are reasons to be encouraged I guess.

No it doesn't. Vast majority of Scotland supporters want England to fail, the vast majority of England supporters want Scotland to fail. It is called rivalry.

Very odd behaviour to want your biggest rivals to do well in any sport. Very woke.
