The performance tonight was outstanding from England. The mentality of the players and their team spirit was first class.

Are you joking? It was mostly terrible, and the 90 minutes of football was turgid to watch. It was an achievement just to get to penalties.

ITV coverage is so terrible it's unreal.

"That's it, it's going to Extra time, join us after the break"
"Welcome back, the players are just kicking off"
Repeat.

Also wtaf was Ryan Giggs pitch side?

Great to see the country behind the English team again. Such drama last night.

England played well up until the penalty then it all started to unravel.

Feel for Pickford on basis that he made that world class save, one of the greatest you will ever see only to concede on next corner. Deserved more recognition but hey he is getting it now for the shootout drama.

What an opportunity for us.

tbh I think Ryan Giggs has turned up for more England games as a pundit than he did for Wales games as a player.

The shot was going wide though/hitting the outside of the post. If he hadn't have touched it Colombia wouldn't have scored from the corner and we win 1-0. Pickford then doesn't go on to be a national hero for saving the penalty in the shoot-out. Weird how football works.

People really, really need to look beyond a demand for tiki-toki-taki football, playing like Brazil, and bumming everyone we play 5-0. The challenge last night was different. Colombia were a cynical and nasty side. They committed 23 fouls. We had 52% possession. Based on normal 'ball-in-play' numbers, that means they fouled us once around once every minute. You don't and can't simply walk through those sides.

We kept it tight in midfield, Henderson I thought was excellent in his role again, but unfortunately lost his man for the goal and missed that penalty. Kane worked tirelessly, as did Sterling against a much bigger opponent; the wing-backs must have covered 50 miles each. Just that sort of game and we got through it.

The one shame for me is that Pickford's total worldie of a save in the 92nd minute got completely lost by the Colombia goal from the resulting corner. I don't think they even showed a replay.

She has since blocked me...

Now she is tweeting about how she can't possibly be happy when England score if it's by Kane or another Spurs player. She is Arsenal first, England second.

Oh and I liked him before, but I like Southgate more with every minute that passes of this World Cup.

Yea that's true actually. It's easy to forget that the mindset, culture and gameplan of opposition isn't to play free flowing, goal-scoring football. In columbia's case, it was to foul, kick, cheat and generally be complete idiots.

Progressed further than our ranking.

Record World Cup Finals win.

First World Cup Finals Penalty Shoot Out win.

Current Golden Boot leader.

And somehow we're still not actually playing very well.

And Barcelona paid £10m for Yerry Mina. £10m. He is an absolute monster.

Southgate on Pickford.
“It was a top-class save, and I was surprised he could reach it given his height,” said the manager through a smile.
