Collymore is surprisingly good and beat up Johnson, 2 reasons for him to get promoted from radio to TV

Vision
Super_horns There is a reason why most of the British pundits have never made it as managers...they don't really have a clue.

All this praise for Vialli must seem a bit weird given the utter balls up he made at your place mate.

True but that was down to buying over the hill over paid players.

His style of play was good and ideas and ofcourse ITV digital going bust hardly helped.

winchester_royal Completely agree, embarrassing how much more eloquent and knowledgeable Klinsmann and Vialli were last night compared to the two English morons on the right.

Seedorf has also been a class above and Leonardo was ok when he covered the world cup. I'm struggling to think of a really good British pundit. Still, on the plus side at least they don't use Ian Wright any more!

Gullit when he's been on has been superb.

Which is probably why he's not asked back - he shows up the established names for how poor they really are.

I don't get wound up by the football pundits. I never watch the pre/mid/post game coverage, watching the match itself is enough for me: you get the key incidents replayed during the game anyway. Lawrenson is of course an utter helmet but I tend to tune out of his inane comments during the game. I think sitting behind Compo's Hat at the Madj helps me to do this.

Can't stand Mark Bright either, but Keown is far and away the worst of the bunch.

The BBC pundit team needs a shake up.

Lawrenson should never have been on there but it's certainly time to put him out to grass now. I used to like Hansen but like Lawro he seems a bit bored by the job now. I don't mind Dixon. Shearer doesn't add much but they can't get rid of the whole panel. Unfortunately pretenders to the regular job like Keown and Bright have proved a disaster.

I'd like to see people more in touch with the modern game. Look what a difference Neville made to Sky's coverage. The managers who have appeared occasionally like Moyes, Redknapp and Pardew have been pretty good and Klinsmann and Vialli were a breath of fresh air but obviously none of these, except maybe Harry, are going to be available for a regular gig. I'm not really a great fan of Savage but would prefer him to Lawro and Hansen as a MotD regular. Danny Mills is good on the radio so why not try him. Colin Murray needs to move to reality TV for the intellectually challenged in order to find his correct place in the world.

As for ITV they won't shake off the amateurish perception people have while Chiles is the front man but they have some decent panellists now. I thought Carragher was OK but his voice counts against him. Keane is good value and Southgate a safe pair of hands. Not sure about Strachan.

Hansen has been on the Beeb for 20 years. As he would no doubt predictably say: Unbelievable.

I think the old boys club on MOTD is bordering on referral to the BBC Trust for investigation. Especially given the staggering amounts of money they're paid.

Elmer Park I thought Carragher was OK but his voice counts against him.

He wrote a good piece in Tuesday's Telegraph about his views on the required culture change in the English game. He is worth persevering with but I agree about the voice!

Carragher was outstanding for ITV I thought. Clearly has a big future in whichever branch of football he goes into next.

Lawro - for christ sake someone put him - and us - out of his misery. He was so bad last night I thought he was trying to get himself sacked - or win Misanthrope of the Decade.

Dixon and Beglin I like and Vialli's command of the English language was a joy to behear!

The punditry of Englishmen may be a sign of why we're so poor. If our coaches talk the same BS and instill that into the players, it's no wonder the Germans and Italians are better as they seem to have a far better knowledge and FAR BETTER IDEAS. Much rather listen to Vialli and Klingsmann than Shearer and Keown. (To be fair Dixon is pretty good)

spot on about Vialli, Klinsman and Seedorf - very measured and intelligent. Vialli was particularly good, as I pointed out to mrs leon, but she had fallen asleep.

Carragher really ought come with subtitles.

Jimmy Armfield is usually pretty sharp but you only get him on the radio.

Jimmy Hill was good

I like Gabriel Marcotti on the few occasions someone puts him on (e.g. Radio5)

LUX Mowbray (looking at sad German female fan): Poor girl

Lawro: You never know, she might be rich.

I actually noticed this during the game and made a mental note that it was the shittiest piece of commentary I've ever heard, narrowly beating:

"the italian manager may have something up his sleeve"

"his shirt?"

from the Italy/England game

you just don't get this garbage on Sky

'There is no I in Team'

'That's what we call an Arjen Robben'

Mark Lawrenson.

I watched the game last night on English TV and it was the first time I heard Lawrenson. I was astonished at how inept and out of place he is on TV. Awful.

LUX Vialli and Klinsmann, speaking a foreign language, were fantastic to listen to (especially Vialli imo), full of insight and humour. Please please please BBC can we have Vialli on MOTD next season.

Does Sky Italia so sadly no chance.

Only one around us that talks sense m8.

I don't get why the BBC are trying to become worse than ITV. ESPN Press Pass makes all of these fools look like idiots and they don't even have replays to analyse!

Mick McCarthy is probably the best co-commentator. As someone remarked, it sounds like he's speaking from his potting shed with a pipe in one hand and a pint of homebrew in t'other.
