Kevin Phillips

by Maguire » 28 Apr 2014 15:59

I see Kevin Phillips has retired today.

I'm not one to start threads on GF but I have quite a lot of man love for Phillips. Terrific goalscorer who kept doing it when it mattered all the way up to 40 years of age.

Hard to believe I first saw him playing for Watford when he scored a consolation in front of the Town End at Elm Park when we won 4-1 in the 94/95 season.

RIP in peace.

The thinking man's Filipo Inzaghi, he'll sleep well tonight.

RIP, so young

'Greed.

Everytime I saw him play, even if it was coming on as a sub in the 88th minute, he seemed to score.

Didn't he score their goal in that game and I think it was one of the first goals he scored in his professional career

Ditto.

My lasting memory of him will be when he gave me evils at Legoland.

Did he not almost come here at one point?

Quality player, top goalscorer, and still the last English winner of the Golden Boot. Scorer of big goals in big games too, couple of penalties in Champo play off finals.

No, its against FA rules to be a registered member on a website of a club you don't play for. Conflict of interest and all that.

His potatoshops are things of great subtlety and timing. A big loss.

If he'd played for one of the big clubs he'd have been shown loads more patience by various England managers and got a lot more than 8 caps.

Not sure but as he didn't we are now the only club in England he can now celebrate against, out of respect to his former clubs

A good career for a player who was never a big-time Charlie probably because he started off as a non-league player and not as a cossetted junior at a Premier League club.
