Probably only to be thwarted by Reading’s trip to Bristol Rovers later this month

We could be suspended by the EFL for that game. Perhaps that happens, Rovers get awarded a walkover and Burton get relegated.

Bottom of the second tier is getting feisty. Personally think the current bottom 3 of Plymouth, Luton and (finally) Cardiff will be relegated.

Remaining games for the bottom 5:

Hull City (44pts)
Coventry (h)
Swansea (a)
Preston (h)
Derby (h)
Portsmouth (a)

Derby County (43pts)
Luton (h)
WBA (a)
Hull (a)
Stoke (h)

Cardiff City (42pts)
Sheffield Utd (a)
Oxford (h)
WBA (h)
Norwich (a)

Luton Town (42pts)
Derby (a)
Bristol City (h)
Coventry (h)
WBA (a)

Plymouth Argyle (40pts)
Middlesbrough (a)
Coventry (h)
Preston (a)
Leeds (h)

nice point for Hull last night. takes them to 3 points above the relegation zone and with a much better GD than those in it.

Finished 2-0 to Sheff Utd. They've still got a faint hope of going up automatically. 2 points behind Leeds (who will probably beat Oxford shortly) and 5 points behind Burnley, who they play on Monday.

The bottom of the table is TIGHT. Plymouth bottom on 40 points, Cardiff on 42, Luton and Derby on 43, then Hull on 45.

At the start of today, every team was either still possibly relegated or possibly promoted, which is incredible for this late in the season.

Premier League

Liverpool can finally put an end to the non-race for the title on Sunday if they can beat everyone’s favourite cheats, Leicester City, and Ipswich do Arsenal at Portman Road.

At the bottom Southampton are gone, Leicester will go with them if Liverpool beat them while wins for West Ham and Wolves will condemn Ipswich whatever they do v the Arse.

Championship

In the race to see who gets relegated from the Premier League next season, Leeds and Burnley are pretty much there with only a Sheffield United win a Turf Moor on Monday likely to really keep the interest alive beyond Monday. Sheffield Utd and Snuderland are play off certainties while Bristol City, Coventry City and Middlesbrough are battling it out for the last couple of places. WBA, Millwall and Blackburn have very slim chances to sneak in but would be reliant on a lot of others results going their way while winning their remaining games.

At the bottom it’s really going to be any 3 from Plymouth, Cardiff, Derby, Hull or Luton. Oxford, Stoke, Preston and Portsmouth are not entirely safe at the moment but only really look likely to be caught if those below them start getting snookers.

League One

Birmingham are up and Wycombe are three wins away from joining them, however Wrexham have a very slightly easier run in (Blackpool (a), Charlton (h) & Lincoln (a)) v (Charlton (h), Orient (a) & Stockport (a)). The play offs will feature Wrexham or Wycombe and Stockport and Charlton with Orient battling Reading, Huddersfield, Blackpool and Bolton for the final slot.

Shrewsbury have gone, Crawley and Cambridge will go with them unless there are some incredible turn rounds in form at the bottom and the final relegation spot will be a battle between Bristol Rovers and Burton.

League Two

The closest of all with automatic going to any 3 from Walsall, Doncaster, Port Vale, Bradford or Wimbledon (horrible northern feel about all that). The play off spots will be 2 of the aforementioned plus any 2 from Notts County, Grimsby, Colchester, Salford, Crewe, Chesterfield or even Swindon :o

At the bottom Morecambe have pretty much come to the end of the road needing to win all their games and then hoping while Carlisle are likely to pick up the second relegation spot but are at least making a fight of it at last having won 3 in a row. Accrington v Carlisle on Monday should be the game that Sky choose to cover 8) but no, why don’t we have Spurs and Forest instead

In Division 5 Barnet are pretty much home and hosed while Maidenhead will have to win at struggling Wealdstone on Monday to realistically keep themselves in with a chance of survival.

Despite absolutely bottling it, Walsall have got by far the easiest run in of the top teams in League Two, so expect they'll still stumble over the line.

Daily Telegraph came up with an interesting* stat; whenever Leeds have been promoted into the top flight, Liverpool have won the League in that season.

1963/64
1989/90
2019/20
2024/25 (ok, Liverpool aren't quite there yet, but they are going to win it)
