I have bored on about it before, but something I found interesting to learn is that Portuguese football journalists will explain that there is no 'big 3' over there, just a 'big 2 + Sporting', or I have heard it called 'the Big 2.5'.

Sporting are just nowhere near the size of the other 2, or have the budget to compete. Last seasons title win was only their 4th in more than 40 years.

Sporting winning the league is really considered something of a huge achievement over there as they are just way behind the other 2 in terms of resources.

I personally have a soft spot for Benfica and quite like to see them do well. I used to work with a bloke who would proudly tell me how his grandad was something to do with helping create Benfica, and he himself helped run some Benfica supporters group over here and would organise meet ups for big games in pubs in London. Showed me pics before of some pub they went to for a big game and the whole place was decorated in Benfica/Portugal stuff. even organised some Portuguese food there. Did genuinely look great

I forgot to include France which is PSG 13 - 10.8%

These numbers were from Jonathan Wilson's e_mail thing which I am subscribed to. He was making the point that English football has not embraced the 'superclub' in the way many other nations have.

France having an impressively low number, but of course their embracing of a superclub has very much happened, but only in the last few years

I'd argue that Olympique de Marseille had all the hallmarkings of being a superclub around 35 years ago under Bernard Tapie but it all rather pleasingly fell apart.

If Watford’s next manager has the letter ‘k’ in his name then they will have a full pangram which has never happened before In English football.

Jonny Evans' departure means that next season will be the first at Manchester United since 1973-74 without a player who played for the club under Alex Ferguson.

Yeh, and there were players from 73-74 onwards who were still there when he joined.

It's been noted elsewhere, but Walsall were 15 points clear inside the automatic promotion spots on January 18th. Yesterday's play-off final defeat to AFC Wimbledon (who were that 4th placed team at the time) seals a remarkable loss of form in the second half of the season.

They were so comfortably inside the automatic spots that it was only Bradford's injury time goal on the last day that pushed them out, despite winning just 1 of their last 14 league games.

Ruben Amorim has a worse Premier League points per game ratio than Paul Jewell, who managed 24 winless games for Derby in 2007/08.
Amorim's 26 Premier League games have been as bad as the season Derby recorded the lowest points tally (11) in PL history.

Over 4 world cups and 12 years of football, between 1950 - 1962, England won just 3 matches
