I’m having a tenner on Coventry to get through. Obviously the less likely, but I fancy them/ think Sunderland are accident- prone.

Last night's playoff between Sunderland and Coventry was amazing. The standard of football was impressive - as another person said, about some other play off, it does look like a different sport compared to the football we've been watching at the SCL the last couple of years.

It was end-to-end until it was simply just Coventry endlessly attacking, endlessly crossing and Sunderland hanging on for their lives. It eventually worked when Coventry got their goal on the 70th minute.

Sunderland didn't appear to have much of a chance at all, but in the extra time - particularly the second half they really came back into it.

Feel really sorry for Lampard - he's done incredibly well and I like him. Coventry have a great chance next year if they can build on this properly and keep the momentum.

Commentary
I know people complain about commentators all the time, no matter who it is, people are never happy. But the commentators last night, mainly Gary Weaver and Don Goodman (the former was worst) were appalling and really annoying.

What I noticed, was just endless cliches and irrelevant comments. It was continous. I could understand if it was a bland game, with no action and no real consequences.

An example was things like:

  1. Coventry surge forward, commentator: "which of these teams have the nerve and can get the winner here?"
  2. At a corner: "One of these teams only can make it through to Wembley and the biggest prize in football"
  3. "Smith is on the bench, he's a Coventry fan"
  4. "Jones is a Sunderland fan but born in Coventry"
  5. At a throw-in: Sheffield United will be watching this with interest
  6. Free Kick: Who can rise up and get a touch on this ball to finish the game off?
  7. Could this be any more dramatic and tense?
  8. Coventry are brining on Thomson. He's just putting tape around his socks - something I think we could all do with
  9. Here comes Smith, he'll be wanting to score the biggest goal of his life

Just a stream of banal and incoherent nonsense isn't it?

Yea it really is, that's what struck me. There was very little about the actual flow of the game. And even then it was very bland. Things like: "The cross was just too shallow there, and Smith couldn't find the net. That's not up to his usual standards"

I am terrible at reading games, and tactics. So I quite like when an actual "expert" says things like "The back line has dropped right back here", or "they've changed formation, with the number 5 pushing up the pitch".

The closest commentators come to actual analysis is when they point out that the team defending a lead going into the last 10 minutes or so is starting to hold a deeper defensive line...................woo hoo, thanks for that insight!

Fancy Orient to win tonight. They won 4-1 at Stockport earlier in the season. 10/3 seems very generous, so will have a few quid on that.

Wycombe are away tomorrow night at Charlton in the 2nd leg play off. It's 0-0 on aggragate so far.

Just saw an update on their ticket sales; so far, they've sold 1500 tickets.

I'm resistent to criticisng attendances as I think any fans that go to home or away games should be appreciated. But that really is poor. They had many empty seats at the home leg too. I have seen some online talking about a generation of lost fans due to difficulties they faced for a long time.

In the spirit of this I'm going to back Chesterfield to go through, despite Wallsall's 2-0 lead and home advantage.
