Load of ludicrous rubbish that FIFA are implementing in a desperate attempt to try and get lots of ££££ in the same way UEFA do from their overbloated competitions. Stupidest thing about it is that it's only every 4 years and the qualifying, I think, is settled a couple of years before it so it wouldn't necessarily even have the best teams competing. e.g. at the moment Chelsea over Liverpool

'pologies Brogue, didn't see this thread. I've sold out and am going to City v Juve, which is probably the best fixture on paper.

The Premier League has announced it will have two transfer windows this summer to allow Manchester City and Chelsea to sign players before the Club World Cup.

The window will open between Sunday, 1 June and Tuesday, 10 June, then close for five days before running again from Monday, 16 June until Monday, 1 September.

This summer features the first expanded Fifa Club World Cup, which involves 32 teams and adopts the format of the regular World Cup of the past few years.

Chelsea and Manchester City are the Premier League teams in the tournament which takes place in the United States from Sunday, 15 June.

But the Premier League can only have 12 weeks of a summer window - hence the five-day break in order to run it until 1 September.

Fifa has allowed new players to be registered for the Club World Cup from 1-10 June, and again from 27 June-3 July for the knockout stage.

FIFA desperate to try and promote interest in their stupid money grab idea. Clubs obviously just in it for the money, tournament quite possibly of naff all interest outside of South America and Asia. Given there’s going to be no PSG, no Liverpool or Arsenal it arguably doesn’t even have the best teams in the world there! Be interesting to see if there is any interest from the neutral supporters in Europe, really can’t see those fans taking up subscriptions to watch a load of over hyped friendlies.

No idea, some ranking coefficient from a few years ago probably. Point is they are not the best teams in the world on current form so any winner of the tournament should be taken with a pinch of salt by those who give a toss.

A tournament between the best in Europe, Asia, Africa, N & S America is worthwhile but it should be an annual thing not a flashback to 2/3/4 years ago. Unfortunately everyone’s domestic calendar won’t let it happen.

Bearing in mind this tournament is not in any way a convoluted money grab, care to hazard a guess on why Inter Miami are involved?

It is a tournament that in all it's guises has never and never will raise the slightest shred of interest for me.

When FIFA were creating their World Club Championship, I'm pretty sure Al Ain Vs Wydad or Red Bull Salzburg Vs Al Hilal was what they had in mind.

Was listening to a thing over the weekend (the indy podcast - Miguel Delaney is one of my favourite journo's on the wider topics around football) and 2 good points were made

1. The winner of the CWC gets $125M, which basically will absolve a club of any PSR issues they may have had to deal with. And only 2 PL clubs have the chance of this extra income.

2. The next 12 months may well see the real start of globalised football. 2 huge financial tournaments happening in the US with lots of glitz and glamour thrown in. Its only going to set the owners of football clubs off chasing more pound notes.

It would appear things are not going swimmingly with both ticket sales and broadcast rights not where FIFA were hoping.

So much so on the ticket front that, that nice Mr Infantino is offering a deal - buy tickets for the CWC and guarantee a ticket for the 2026 WC.
The downside is the deal is purchase 20 tickets for the CWC to get 1 ticket for the WC (match and venue to be decided by FIFA). As the CWC is being held over a 22 day period it would be logistically impossible to see all 20 matches! Don't see this getting much take up.

BBC and ITV have declined to show any of the CWC so it looks like DAZN will be the choice for anyone in the UK but, honestly, does anyone apart from Chelsea or Man City fans GAF?

No, just a load of over inflated friendlies. By then there’ll probably be no Reading anyway so won’t care about football any more (+ this board will probably be as good as shut down anyway).

right, this nonsense kicks off in 25 days time. first round of fixtures are:

Saturday 14th June:
Al Ahly vs Inter Miami

Sunday 15th June:
Bayern Munich Vs Aukland City
PSG Vs Atletico
Palmeiras Vs Porto
Botafogo Vs Seattle

Monday 16th June:
Chelsea Vs LAFC/Club America
Boca Juniors Vs Benfica
Flamengo Vs Es Tunis

Tuesday 17th June
Fluminense Vs Dortmund
River plate vs Urawa Red Diamonds
Ulsan Vs Mamelodi Sundowns
Monterrey Vs Inter Milan

Wednesday 18th June:
Man City Vs Wydad
Real Madrid Vs Al Hilal
Pachuca vs Salzburg
Al Ain Vs Juventus

The fixtures involving english clubs really don't look very interesting at all. Only the competitive looking ones involving South American clubs look interesting from that list

Palmeiras vs Porto, Boca Juniors Vs Benfica & Fluminense Vs Dortmund are the 3 that I will probs try to catch. Fluminense Vs Dortmund has a nice feel to it.

With the South American teams always taking this pretty seriously, with the prize pot so big it would pretty much transform a South American clubs fortunes (and wreck their league), and with the close historical ties between Portugal & Brazil (and their football), I wonder if Palmeiras Vs Porto could be more a bit more hard fought that many other games here.
