SCIAG I've heard very good things about Chadli from a friend who has an excellent record with Belgians.

This might be the most intriguing sentence I've ever read on here

Not sure about this Townsend form.

He's had about 3 good games and is pretty shite. He will be in the championship before long.

He looks like the only player in the entire squad who knows exactly what he's supposed to be doing, and then goes out there and does it.

Pretty much the same in his few games for England.

But wtf, he hasn't been MOTM in EVERY game he's played so he must be shite.

No wonder they sacked AVB if his instructions for Townsend were to blast 20 shots into the crowd every game even if there's a teammate in a decent position.

Right, so he's been instructed to:

Cut it off the right. Speed through, so he's off balance and then slice a shot at the corner flag.

No wonder AVB got sacked.

I don't think players not settling is an excuse to let the manager/DoF/whoever off the hook for their failed transfer policy (at least in the short term).

Everytime you buy a player it's a gamble whether they'll fit into a squad. Buying from abroad increases that gamble as they have to adapt to a new country and league as well as a new team. Buying so many players is always tricky. Buying so many that haven't played in the Premier League or lived in and around London before is just a massive gamble and one that should've been tempered by buying more proven talent for the short term.

I wonder what's next for AVB. His record at Porto was remarkable and he looked like the next up and coming manager in Europe. He had a pretty torrid time at Chelsea and I thought Spurs was his chance to turn things around. Despite his impressive first season at Spurs, I can't see any big clubs coming in for him now and I don't really see him at a smaller team. He has previously stated that he wanted to quit coaching in 5-10 years, but I wonder if this may be a premature end for him.

He'll still easily get a job somewhere in Europe. Maybe straight back into work with Valencia.

Less than a goal a game by 16 games into the season.
3 of 8 wins coming through a solitary penalty goal.
Slating the fans for being unenthusiastic.

Tottenham's 8 'scalps' this season:
Palace
Swansea
Norwich
Cardiff
Villa
Hull
Fulham
Sunderland

Only Swansea, who are 10th, are not in the bottom half of the league.

No surprise he got sacked.

Seems like everyone is playing the "players haven't settled" card - as I said before, it's hard for a group of new players to settle into a new system when there doesn't seem to be a coherent system or first XI in place by the manager.

The persons that assembled the team need to take some blame as well though.

They have far too many attacking midfielders:
Lennon
Holtby
Townsend
Chadli
Eriksen
Sigurdsson
Lamela

Madness. They can play 3 at the very most of these 7 :!:
Even when they restrict themselves to playing just 2 they still concede 5.

Can't help but wonder how many clubs are operating transfer policies that at least in part consider the value in signing a player simply because a rival wants him. Spurs had huge spending power in the summer - Eriksen and Holtby were both on Liverpool's list at one point, Arsenal wanted Holtby too, likewise Willian was a Liverpool target who would have been another attacking midfielder had Chelsea not come in at the last minute. Lamela was a target for City.

Eriksen is a good signing, but did they need the others? Maybe not. But at least Holtby isn't at Arsenal or Liverpool, Lamela isn't at City, and so on.

Willian was much closer to joining Spurs than Liverpool, before Chelsea pipped 'em both. Agree with the sentiments of the post though. Squad sizes of most PL clubs are just ridiculous these days.

He's suited to the European game as shown by how well he's done in the Europa league. He knows that style and how to best it - he unfortunately hasn't worked out the English game yet
