Total collapse from Aberdeen. having matched Celtic point for point early in the season they now have 1 point from the last possible 15 and are not even in 2nd place anymore. Celtic with a 14 point lead at the top, and they play 2nd placed Rangers today so can extend that even further.

SPL top scorer is Sam Dalby of Dundee Utd with 9 goals. He is 25, has knocked around the english lower divisions for a while and is on loan up there from Wrexham. Was a regular for Wrexham as they got promoted from the conference and then also as they got promoted from League 2, but hardly ever scored goals until he went up to Scotland a few months ago

No, but 8 players have at least 4. 12 different goalscorers in total.

Rangers currently 1 up in the Auld Firm derby at Ibrox. A win would cut Celtic's lead to a mere 11 points. Celtic have only dropped 2 points away from home this season.

Well it almost makes up for dropping 5pts against St Mirren and Motherwell in the past week which is more points than Celtic had dropped all season prior to yesterday.

And Rangers ably demonstrate why they won't win the league this season by throwing away a 2 goal lead at Hibs.

Aberdeen have won 1 game in all comps since the end of October

their first 11 league games saw them win 10 and draw 1. The next 10 games after that saw them lose 7 and draw 3

thats quite some weird season they are having

Its the big one in Scotch League 1 tomorrow!

Inverness, 2nd from bottom, docked 15 points, but have been really good since that happened Vs Annan who are 1 place outside the relegation zone

a win for Inverness and they'll be 4 points away from getting out of it with a game in hand!

They got a new manager at the start of the season, so I wonder if sides have worked out how to play against them now.

Doing some research on their manager: it's currently Jimmy Thelin, who got Jonkopings Sodra to the Swedish top flight for the first time before becoming Elfsborg's manager.

It appears Elfsborg had gone into a strong decline after winning the Swedish league in 2012 - They'd finished 6th, 4th, 4th, 5th and 8th in the seasons before Thelin turned up. His first couple of seasons were 12th and 8th, but came 2nd, 4th, 6th and 2nd in the following years - missing out on the title in 2023 on goal difference.

They came 7th in the final season, although he was confirmed as Aberdeen manager at the start of the Swedish season and left halfway through at the start of the Scottish season.

Elfsborg has a smaller fanbase (and probably budget) than most top Swedish clubs - the average attendances in Sweden last season were AIK (27,922); Hammarby (23,579); Malmo (20,267); Djurgarden (19,340); Goteborg (16,843); GAIS (9,011); Elfsborg (8,318). They were punching above their financial weight consistently under Thelin.

Based on him taking a couple of seasons to improve results at Elfsborg, I'd hope and expect Aberdeen to stick with him for a bit. They've already signed the Latvia captain this transfer window, which probably wouldn't make sense if he was under any pressure now.

Celtic 16 points clear at the top, 2nd placed rangers 7 points ahead of 3rd with a game in hand.

by my reckoning you basically have 6 teams who's season is playing to not be relegated, and 4 teams scrapping it out to see who can get into the Europa League qualifying spot or Europa Conference League qualifying spot

I would genuinely love to hear from a fan of say, Motherwell or Hibs, as to whether the season is quite exciting if they just ignore the top 2 and consider the league a fight among 3 or 4 clubs to see who can get into the lower european competitions, or whether its just as sh*t and pointless as it looks.

unrelated - Hibs should have a forum called hibnibanyone? maybe we could create a joint forum between us and come together in one big pointless football supporting e-frenzy!

I watch a lot of SPL football and barring the Old Firm, it is a really competitive league. Yes, the football isn't always great but it's an exciting league.

Most season's it's any 2 from 9 for the last 2 European spots. Aberdeen ,Hearts, Hibs, Motherwell, Kilmarnock and St Mirren have all played European football in the last 2 seasons and Dundee Utd look well placed to qualify this.

Generally though, the teams who do qualify for Europe have a habit of having a shit start to the season.

Very jealous if you get to experience them doing their rendition of Sunshine On Leith

Not sure if Clydebank is really one they are going to be up for tbh

Is it really much different to any other league? Most leagues have 2, 3 or 4 sides who are capable of winning the league and for clubs outside of this group the target is either avoiding the drop or pushing for a European place, knowing that a CL place is likely out of reach unless you have a really exceptional season.

Would be interesting to see what would happen if someone with deep pockets were to come in and bankroll one of the bigger non Old Firm clubs.

Clydebank has had a succession of clubs called Clydebank. They’re well used to one club folding and being replaced by another (on average every 30 years or so). I lost track of them when the third (I think) incarnation moved to Airdrie and became Airdrie United (now Aidrieonians again). Seems this current incarnation started in 2003 so should have at least another 10 years or so of life left in them.

The ground is what it is as they now play in the West of Scotland League (currently stylised as the Greenversity league), the winners of which would get promoted into the Lowland League. So they’re currently at tier 6 in Scottish football. Clydebank are currently top of the Premier Division, are unbeaten in the league and have a game in hand on the club in second.

When they were at their best level (late 70s & early 80s) they were playing at (New) Kilbowie Park (below). That ground was sold out from under Clydebank by its owners for retail and restauranting in 1996 and the club were forced to ground share at Boghead until the Airdrie thing happened (Airdrieonians entered bankruptcy and the owners of the subsequent phoenix club, Airdrie United, basically bought Clydebank to reclaim a place for an Airdrie club in the Scottish League).

Great afternoon out. Three nil Hibs, boisterous atmosphere created by the 2000+ Bankies.

But the Scottish Cup means little to the Hibees, under 10k home fans.

Jordan Obita was out injured, but Junior Hoilet played. Seemed overweight.
