Well, from an Irish perspective, that was all rather disappointing. I had expected Ireland to start strongly, maybe sneak a goal in the first fifteen minutes and hold on for a brave/undeserved 1-1. That has often been the way under Trap, but it all looks pretty bleak now.

Don't worry, I'm sure you'll feel better after the match this evening.

Ireland's pasting at the hands of an ordinary Croatia side just shows what a team full of distinctly average Premiership players can expect at this level. Doesn't bode well for England at all.

Here's hoping the jammy fairy is on our side tonight!

That was a good result last night. I always feel a bit more relaxed once one of the other local teams are losing in any major tournament. The TV coverage won't be able to cut from the inquest into our defeat tonight (should it happen) to optimistic scenes from the Irish camp.

Ireland did well to create so many chances for Andrews, and should have had that penalty, but 3-1 seemed about fair. The subs were odd. You do wonder what Long and Maclaren would have done given 30 mins.

Stephen WaROFLd, deserved win for Croatia despite Ireland's penalty claim.

Even though Torres missed that 1 on 1 I think Spain looked much better when he came on and would be surprised if they start without a striker again.

Not terribly happy with the Ireland result. Given made to look very silly for the first but made up for it with a great header for their third. The team looked pretty clueless, as did the manager.

Fair play to the fans though. They must have filled up three quarters of the ground. I hope talk of a mass England fan stay home is off the mark this afternoon.

What's with all the Ireland hate on here anyway? It's not like they have been trying to dominate England for the last 800 years.

Ooo ah up ya ma , say ooo ah up ya ma!

As said, don't hate them - dont love them but what i do hate is a bunch of [English] Reading fans "supporting" them over England just cos Doyle, Hunt, Long etc play/played for them :|

If they are supporting them over England then that's just dumb.

Anyway, predictions for today's game. I can't see us scoring and I know very little about the current French team. I'm gonna go for a really dull 0-0.

Who are these nobbers?

I want Ireland to do well, for the Reading connection, but I’m not supporting them over England. Haven’t seen that, tbh.

Plenty of times there have been comments of "Watching Ireland tonight instead of the bore-fest England game - be good to see Doyle, Long etc playing"

4-0 France

They will grab 2 quick early goals meaning we'll have to attack them and their front 4 of Nasri, Ribery, Ben Arfa, Benzema will rip us a new a-hole

If I thought they were going to lose 4 nil I'm not sure I'd bother, though I suppose anything better than that will be a result now.

I've changed my mind. I'm going for an england win. Parker to get one and a Wellblack brace.

England will win 1-0, Terry header. Reveal a shirt in celebration just saying 'Rio you've been murked mate' on it.

The entire BBC output seems to be entirely about racism being terrible and irish fans being wonderful. I don't know how they square this with Ireland being a famously racist country.

I have to admit that the German newspapers are full of stories about how famously racist Irish people are.
