Stranded
BR0B0T did Liverpool field their reserve team?

Apparently the youngest team they have ever fielded - average age of 21 and a bit. And that was boosted by 29 yo Lucas playing. Still a poor result mind.

But lets not forget that Sturridge, Firminio, Lallana, Lucas, Can, Moreno, Karius and Origi all took part in the game too.

Deserved result. If Plymouth had been bothered enough though Liverpool would have lost that game and while its great to see such talented youth given a chance the utter disrespect to the tournament (& Plymouth) is beyond belief.

Of course the irony is that if Plymouth had done what Liverpool did in the checkacrowd trophy they would have been fined but if you're a megabucks club you can take the **** as much as you like in cup competitions.

Overall think the cup has been quite disappointing so far with little by way of really interesting ties and not that much by way of shocks. To top it all the (sad to say expected) choices for tv coverage have been just pathetic. For example the utter joke of selecting ManU's game (isn't that something like their 50th consecutive tie) over an option like Bolton v Palace or Everton v Leicester just goes to prove that in this world that all anyone cares about is money, money and more money.

Actual quote from the Head of BBC Football:

“Any broadcaster would say that teams such as Manchester United or Liverpool bring in another audience. Some broadcasters might have bigger commercial pressures than others, but at the BBC our idea is always to balance entertaining as broad an audience as possible with reflecting the broader nature of the competition and the feeling around it. The FA Cup is a big part of what we do. We work hard in trying to get the balance right”

So err West Ham v Man City and Spurs v Villa. Yep, reflecting the broader nature of the competition there. I know the non-league sides didn't get great draws but no reason why the BBC couldn't have stuck Wycombe-Stourbridge or Ipswich-Lincoln on as one pick. Even Bolton-Palace as you say would be a better pick for a live game due to the chance of a shock. Can't tell me it wouldn't be more interesting/entertaining than Spurs Reserves V Villa.

Don't know if any of you saw Cambridge Leeds last night but Uche Ikpeazu was a right handful, Leeds didn't know what to do him. Bit unsubtle but had some skill and finished well. Shame we lost him.

chap I know from elsewhere

For what it's worth*, I think there should be a rule in play regarding what matches TV can show live in the 3rd round.
The requirement should be lower league team at home to higher league team.

In short, based on last weekend:
West Ham v Man City - NO
Man U v Reading - NO
Preston v Arsenal - YES
Liverpool v Plymouth - NO
Spurs v Villa - NO
Cambridge v Leeds - YES

And, coincidentally, which 2 of those 6 matches were the best for the neutral to watch?

I rest my case.

Yours sincerely,
Elton Welsby

This is the perfect tie for TV not to show but it will be on.

At first glance, these 6 would make the most sense to show:

Soton/Norwich V Arsenal
Fulham V Hull
Derby V Leicester
Millwall v Watford
Wimbledon/Sutton V Leeds
Palace/Bolton V Man City

struggling champions of England vs in form team in the division below. If I was looking for an upset that may well be the place (though probably not)

Colleague is a Cambridge STH. She says his fitness was terrible (as was he) to start with. She also says he's poor at scoring, but they're ok because they have someone dangerous to play off him in the big guy - little guy partnership. He's definitely come on a lot in the last six months though according to her.

So if Bolton beat Crystal Palace in their replay - the Man Utd-Wigan game will not be shown live.

However, if Palace win - then the Beeb will show Utd-Wigan instead of Palace-Man City.
