In cases like this with repeat offenders the judges should be able to increase the penalty which they can apply. Therefore someone who is naughty the first time might get a fine, the second time they appear they might get a larger fine, the third time, larger still or a small period in prison and so on depending on the nature of the offences.

Therefore someone with his record would get the going rate for the crime commited plus extra as he is continually being naughty. In addition there would be no chance of parole.

I presume Notts County will pick him up after his sentence.

Isn't that exactly what they do do?

He had a similar convinction before, which he received a slap on the wrist for. Now he's re-offended he's got a heavier sentence.

To be honest I thought 18 months was a pretty stiff sentence for ABH - his record explains why.

Has he actually been convicted of a "sexual assault" as well as the papers suggest (for a bum grab as far as I can tell) and if so will he have to go on the register on release?

He'll do his time and get back into football.
Ridiculous to say otherwise.

As Wigan have sacked him, it will be interesting to see if they can sue him in a similar way that Chelsea have done Mutu.

Seven years on the sex offenders register, apparently, probably as the attack was sexually motivated, even if he did only grab her bum at first.
