Trippier appeared to launch himself at KDB with no possibility or intention of getting the ball, with his foot at least 18” off the ground, connecting with the knee.
It may not have resulted in an actual injury but I’d call that reckless endangerment.
Regardless of differing interpretations of the “challenge” I do long for the day when professional fouls of that nature are given (what I believe is) the fitting punishment of a red card.
That said, I have rarely seen a better direct free kick than Trippier’s today. Ronaldo, eat your heart out.

Think there’s an argument for the introduction of an orange card for cases like this (10 minute sinbin), for the offences that are too strong to be a yellow but not quite enough for a red
