Struggling to recall such a transformation as Joelinton at Newcastle - another excellent game today and Newcastle have got to be contenders for the top four

Spurs were as woeful as they’ve been all season, finally getting the results their performances have merited

I give you Almiron....

So pleased Eddie Howe is doing well.

So pleased when Conte loses. He must be a nightmare to play for - screaming at players where to pass the ball throughout 90 mins must drive them mad.

Yeah - I quite like Howe, got things wrong at Bournemouth but been very astute with his signings so far - as opposed to his last 18 months at Bournemouth

Almiron was always an OK player, obviously showing huge improvements now but IMO Joelinton has had a bigger transformation, gone from the laughing stock of the Prem to a very very good player

Grealish turned Almiron into a monster when he said 'Mahrez got taken off because he played like Almiron'

Without disrespect, I'm actually quite surprised Newcastle are doing as well as they are and it does show a great transformation that Eddie Howe has done. Fair enough, players like Bruno, Isak, Botman and Trippier are all talented players for sure, but they've still managed to massively improve with players like Dan Burn, Chris Wood, Matt Targett etc who are just decent enough PL players. They aren't necessarily poor players, but they've been plying their trade in the bottom half of the PL, in the main, for a few years so it's a surprise to see where they are performing now.

Fair play to Howe and co, he's developing a really good side and the positivity around the place seems to be doing them wonders at the moment. They are going toe to toe with every side in the division and were very unlucky to not get anything against Liverpool away as well.

Yep, this. For all the rightful criticism of their ownership, the club haven't approached this as many thought that they would, and they have bought astutely, whilst getting a tune out of players like Targett and Burn who have struggled at this level before. Howe is approaching a year in charge now, and Liverpool and City remain the only teams to win at St. James Park in that time, it is becoming quite the fortress. And but for Matip's injury time winner at Anfield, they would be unbeaten this season.

Not sure what's happened with the boys at Liverpool!? Was surprised the midfield wasn't strengthened in the summer

Carvalho wasn’t it?

Didn’t realise their home form was that impressive under Howe, doing a very good job there. Do feel to some extent that Bruce didn’t do anywhere near as bad as was made out but the difference now is chalk and cheese

Winston Biscuit Haaland is only 6 goals away from equaling last seasons PL top goalscorer

Dixie Dean holds the all-time top-flight record in England with 60 goals during the 1927-28 campaign. For Haaland to eclipse this he would have to up his current ratio of 1.15 goals per-game to 1.62 – an increase of around 0.5 for every 90 minutes (plus added time) remaining.

13 players scored 23 or more that season

Only two pens between all of them

I wrote about that on another thread recently. Change to the offside law in the 1920's and there was around 6 seasons of high scoring mayhem before it calmed down.

Eddie Howe, part of the famous Howe clan. His father was Don Howe who is the uncle of Nigel and the great uncle of Teddy (now playing at Weymouth). Nigel is therefore Eddie's cousin. One of those where it feels like there should be more of a Reading connection but isn't, bit like the Allen clan.

In addition Steve Lovell (now scout at Bournemouth) is his half brother. Sadly Archie is not related - now that would have been good.

He'll therefore probably be touted as a future Reading manager at some point - when he's on the way down.

Didn't know this - surprised therefore that Dean's figure doesn't come with an asterisk. What is the record in 'normal times'?

It's funny because, Tottenham being Tottenham aside, Kane is actually having one of the best goalscoring seasons of his career so far, but it's not even registering on anyone's radar because of Haaland.

We've come to take Kane for granted, which I guess emphasises his class. 51 goals for England, only eight of which have come in friendlies or the Nations League. And 193 Premier League goals now - he'll likely be into second ahead of Rooney by the end of this season and will go past Rooney's England record, and Shearer's Premier League mark in time too. In fact Kane might be England's top scorer for generations.

Only a few more until he becomes Tottenham's all-time top scorer too. 8 goals left until he overtakes Greaves.

If you take normal times to be since the end of the Second World War then it will be Jimmy Greaves who I think bagged 41 for Chelsea back at the start of the 60s (pretty much a goal a game then).

Suarez, Shearer and Ronaldo have all hit 31 over a season since the PL arrived.
