Wow. Germany are more organised and more clinical. Holland haven't looked like scoring

Didn't Holland get to the world cup final a couple of years ago? Germany are making this look very easy

He did against Denmark too. Everything is going that way from Germany, Afellay not giving the LB any help.

Not yet, they could lose this 10-0 and still be in with a shout.

If they then beat Portugal by 2 clear goals and Denmark lose to Germany, they'll go through.

They were World No 1 in August last year if I heard the commo correctly.

In fairness, the Dutch would be more threatening if van Persie could hit the broadside of a barn or Robben could make a decent decision at the moment.

Great free kick from Schweinsteiger at the end then, so close to creeping in. There are definitely more goals in this. And Badstuber should have scored earlier. Cricket score if the Dutch don't sort themselves out.

Agree the Dutch left back is woeful, commo says he's a midfielder. How can you be a top 10 team in the world and only have one left back FFS?

Jetro Willems - he is a left back, just he's an 18 year old who has made 36 professional appearances in his entire career

EDIT: his Wiki is being updated live apparently:

In his second appearance of the tournament against Germany he had a fairly poor game, with Thomas Muller and Jerome Boateng often getting past him with ease down the right. [3]

That must be what I heard. Great plan, a kid and a midfielder at full back. :|

Barry the bird boggler This idea of putting 5th and 6th officials behind the goal is crap! Do these guys actually do anything? And just was is the point in the really bright idea of putting them on the same side of the goal as the lineman?

The point is an additional set of eyes, and presumably he is wearing a mic to talk to the ref.

Agreed on the second point though.

You see these extra officials bottle even more decisions than the original ones so I can't see the point.

In terms of positioning I guess the assumption is that they have a better angle from behind the goal to see somethings the lino will miss and that the ref (operating on his diagonal) will get a more similar view in the box from the other side of the box to the lino. That might be a bit flawed of course.

The free kick wasn't great was it? It was just a deflection.

Such a good player though.

Most difficult chance he's had in the two games as well.

Didn't see a deflection, may have been one to loop it I guess.

Germany eased off a bit and Dutch have punished them with a good goal that's been coming a bit. van Persie is going to be dangerous now he's found his range.

As far as I am aware they are solely appointed to watch for ball in and out of play, particularly goal line. No other decisions are required from them.
