Leganes up as champions after they win and Valladolid put their feet up on the beach away at Tenerife

Was flicking between the Leganes match, and also the Racing Santander match where for the last 20 minutes they just needed 1 goal to get them into the play offs, but couldn't get it. Cue handbags from players and staf at the end as frustration boils over

Watching the developments in Germany and Italy, particularly, reminds us of how competitive these leagues are, with every game potentially flipping the standings.

His move to Barca had people up in arms. Was extremely unfair on Leganes.

Didn't they try to release him without paying up his contract because they'd signed Lewandovski and the Spanish FA wouldn't register him because they were taking a giant shit on FFP?

In Italy, I read this morning about Carrarese Calcio who have gained promotion to Serie B.

This apparently brings to an end their stay in Serie C where they have played since the 1977/1978 season. The longest stay in the division by some 32 years.

They are owned by Gianlugi Buffon.

Not sure on that tbh.

When they signed him they used the La Liga rule that says if you have excessive injury problems in the squad you can make an 'emergency' signing outside the transfer window. Barca then looked at players who had release clauses so they basically could just pick one of them, and offered the amount in Braithwaite's contract. The player accepted and off he went.

Leganes though were not allowed to sign anyone to replace him, and so after the Jan window closed, they lost their best forward, had no say in it, and were not allowed to bring anyone in to replace him.

Leganes were relegated by 1 point

I like the Germany one of those.

The lack of Bundesliga clubs in, well, most of the country, is striking.

Was reading about CD Castellon. 3rd tier Spanish team who were champions in the season just gone.

Been out of the top flight since 1991, and one of the best supported clubs in the Valencia region. Been a bit of a mess for years but new owners came in 2 years ago, brought in a Dutch manager, who got Zwolle promoted to the Eredivisie the year before, and in his playing days was at Stoke for a while, who brought in a really attacking exciting style of football, and they went up having scored the most goals across both regional 3rd divs, to much applause.

Now up into the Segunda and apparently already being talked of as one who will be pushing hard for promotion to La Liga.

Couldn't help but think of Ipswich when I was reading it.

Currently on week 4 of sitting at home with a bashed up shoulder. Back to work next week.

TBH I just spend so much time reading about foreign football, way more than I post about on here. I should have made it my job really. I see some of the journalists doing just that, writing about football away from the big headline stories, and I get quite jealous that they are following the dream I should have followed.

Would love to actually fly abroad once or twice a year to watch some games, just work through a dream list of teams & stadiums to attention while soaking up the local culture, but I don't know anyone else that has any interest in doing that.
