They have, for several tournaments running - the world cup is about global TV broadcasting these days, not bums on seats.

soggy biscuit Why would the players be unhappy anyway? They might be happy enough with the world cup draw.

The PFA (and overseas equivalents) are massively, massively unhappy about Qatar. The Technical Report said that playing and training in Qatar in Summer would be"potentially life-threatening". The stadia might be air-conditioned but not the training camps.

I read that stadiums, training complex's and fan zones would all be air conned

Perhaps - I was going on what someone had told me for that one. But the PFAs are still very unhappy.

BTW, the Technical Report on teh bids was actually asked for and read by a total of 3 of the voting panel.

If England (and other countries) left FIFA/UEFA and went their own way, big deal, esp. if other countries followed suit. Might get back to some semplance of an equal playing field not swamped with a load of overpaid foreigners (but then again given the amount of money SKY keep throwing at the game that's not likely).

By the way I see Boris is acting tough and revoking the free hotel rooms that were going to be made available to FIFA for the waste of money that is the 2012 Olympics.

Can't help but think that football people around the world would laugh if England tried to pull out of FIFA. England are just not that important to world football.

Exactly but if several other FAs went down the same route then it's not such a daft thing to do. Anyways it's about as likely to happen as a league club actually being wound up.....

I'd have thought the best plan isn't to leave FIFA, that's the sort of thing only an idiot would suggest (Yes, I'm looking at you Ken Bates) but to get the big guns together within FIFA, bin Sepp Blatter and force some reform. Better to be inside the tent pissing out and all that

BTW good to see in all this frimmers is still sticking to his claim that nobody cares about the world cup any more, I guess that's why the story of the 2018 bid has managed to slip under the news radar?

I also believe that the "Federation of Federations" - the world governing body for world governing bodies is taking a look at FIFA's internal processes as part of their remit is ensuring democracy and openness in their member organisations.

They can't force change, but it could be extremely embarrassing for the FIFA hierarchy.

i think i am right..the "world cup" has lost any value it may have held.for many reasons... here is another thought..why not allow only those players who have exclusively played in their own country of birth(bar international matches) to feature in the world cup?

I think that's a positive bit of news Dirk.

As much as I think the fall out of the votes is a little over the top and a bit weak because we went along with it all when we thought we might win the bid (although that's understandable from my point of view) the real issue is the fundemental problems with FIFA.

This isn't anything new, it's an appaling organisation that has really gotten away with so much over the years, but this could be the straw that broke the camels back and force about a bit of change.

Having been duped into believing that England's bid was the favourite to win by British journalists should we also believe this stuff about people trying to force FIFA into reform by the very same people?

once bitten twice shy and all that

I don't believe a lot of what I read in the papers anyway, but I think the fact that the media has been used as an excuse, and that the general public seem so outraged by the 'dodgy vote' it will see a few months of open season on FIFA by our better investigative journalists.

Anything they've had in their back pockets ready to go, or anything new they can dig up and expose FIFA on will get them big circulation and lots of plaudits. That will at least get a bit more out in the open.

Will anything really happen in the corridors of power at FIFA? I'd doubt it unless there is a real desire amongst the big players in world football. As it was said earlier, they may see this as a good opportunity to grasp some power back from the smaller, poorer nations. Will that make for a better FIFA? I don't think it can be worse, but it sounds a little like the forces that gave us Premiership so I'm not convinced.

Why are there only 22 (well, 24 until 'The Media' got involved) people voting for this thing?

Why not 202(ish), how do these people get the vote, why do CONCACAF essentially let Jack Warner decide for them? Why Trinidad and Guatamela?

WHY?

WHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?
