PSG win the French cup, which means Strasbourg get the Europa Conference League place for next season

Leganes get the win they need at the bottom of La Liga, but Espanyol also win and so Leganes are relegated.

Heidenheim score a 95th minute winner to stay up and deny Elversberg a place in the Bundesliga

And this is a club with serious financial issues, yet they’re still allowed to continue on. And we all wonder why football’s broken

In January Winston Biscuit Vitesse, who were relegated from the top division in the Netherlands last season after being given an 18 point deduction, are currently bottom of the 2nd tier on -8 points after starting the season with a 6 point deduction, and then been given a further 21 point deduction late in 2024. There is no relegation from the 2nd tier though.

Dutch FA's Licensing Committee to decide at the end of the season whether to continue allowing Vitesse to have a professional license

Vitesse ended up receiving a 39 point deduction after being hit multiple times, finished bottom of the Dutch 2nd tier and have now had their professional licence revoked.

They have a chance to put forward their case this summer to get it back, but last summer they did the same, got it back, and now its been revoked again for the same financial reasons, plus not doing what they agreed to do last summer

"The licensing committee has arrived at its intention to revoke the licence because Vitesse is structurally evading the licensing system. After Vitesse's firm commitments in the summer of 2024, when the club was also in danger of losing its licence, the club has continued to circumvent and evade the licence system

The commitments made by Vitesse to the licensing board included control in relation to potential new owners. These commitments were not fulfilled. For instance, members of the supervisory board were removed from their positions at a crucial moment and were not replaced at that time"

Also, the independent foundation set up last year to help minimise sanction risks and money laundering risks failed to do its job properly and was dissolved midway through the season"

Sincerely hope Racing Club does not disappoint and not even make the playoffs! Smh.

We shall see, Granada is a tough final opponent.

**non Europe alert**

Atletico Platense won the Argie league* last night for the first time in their 120 year history. Apparently it was a genuine shock that a club that small could just keep beating the big boys all the way until the final game last night where they won 1-0.

They got up to the top div 4 years ago after decades down in the 2nd tier and the regional leagues.

*Argentina runs 2 leagues every year, the Apertura (opening league) and the Clausura (closing league), and Platense won the former

Today I learned things. It's a league and then a cup. Platense came sixth in zone B, winning just 6 of their 16 league games, where the top 8 qualify for the play-offs. In those playoffs they beat Racing Club (third in Zone A), River Plate (second in Zone B, lost just one league game), San Lorenzo (fourth in zone B) and Huracan (fourth in Zone A). The best four sides in the league season all lost in the playoff quarter finals.
