I'm sure Diego Costa can call up Kurt Zouma as a character witness if necessary.

Handsome Man I hope he gets off, and the Arsenal defender too, because it was extremely entertaining and the kind of battle between a forward and the opposition centre halves I like to see,

Seriously? :|

I don't think anybody would be silly to disagree with me but yes. Costa has committed some nasty fouls and been punished for them in the past but his was all just silly stuff really and wouldn't have broken any bones. Costa didn't punch the other Arsenal defender. Gabriel didn't respond with a flying kick. To treat these offences in the same way as a deliberate elbow, a proper headbutt or a full-blooded swing of the leg isn't quite right.

However, I do understand the need for consistency in refereeing, and see why we get told a red card for touching somebody in the face is automatic by the letter of the law. I wouldn't appeal either offence if I was the manager.

(I don't think that was the case in 1998 when Beckham was sent off - that's still my personal choice for worst refereeing decision ever.)

What was the incident?

Have I got my years wrong? Beckham flicked his leg back at Simeone and got a red card for being David Beckham in the World Cup quarter-final.

I've looked at the video again now, and Beckham doesn't look so innocent as I remembered, but I am sure at the time players weren't getting sent off for that kind of thing unless they were the second best player in the world and a budding celebrity.

Costa banned for 3 matches. Can't wait for Jose's comments on getting suspended for being man-of-the-match.

Cos that wasn't the offence he got sent off for, he got a booking for that. The red card was the 'kick' out when they were waiting for the goal kick to be taken.
Costa's ban is for slapping Koscielny in the face (twice) which supposedly all match officials missed at the time. The first one was possibly worthy of a yellow but the second was a deliberate slap to the face and should've been a red. Costa and Gabriel both got yellows for the pushing and shoving after which was about right if you take that incident on its own..

So Eva Carneiro loses her job for attending to an injured player.......i.e. doing her job. Seriously, have you ever known a football club like it?

They have been an absolute omnishambles, as a team and general club. And that's just so far this season.

I don't agree. My recollection is that that that was exactly how (foreign) referees were dealing with things at the time.

I (seem to) remember it very clearly and much as it was nothing more than silly petulance, as soon as he kicked out I said "Oh shit, he's off for that."

How long will José last?

Between him and Advocaat for first to go?

He needs to spend more time sorting out his team and less being obsessed with the Arsenal manager
