All in all a brave move then, and that has to count for something. Certainly there would have been enough people ready to say that 'he's only managed in the SPL', if he'd stayed at Rangers.

Yeah certainly is. Shows he has the self belief required to be a top level manager and I hope it works out for him. If anything just for the future prospects of the national side. There are hardly a string of potential replacements should things go tits up with Southgate.

Rooney?

He'll be too busy preparing for huge games at the likes of Fleetwood and MK Dons to worry about England.

What's going on with Nigel Pearson at Bristol City. Is he off with stress / sickness or relieved of duties?

Neil Warnock is favourite to take over.

Got Covid for a 2nd time and it has hit him hard. Were rumours earlier in the week that he was going to have to step down as his health has been impacted so much

Lampard pulls out of Norwich talks and dean smith looks like he’s going to be the new man there now.

Would be a poor move for both IMO, think the job would be too big for him

No way. Bloke has a massive ego, you need that for the United job. OGS is too nice. Rodgers got very close with a Liverpool side who are nowhere near as good as they are now. Think he'd do a decent job there tbh.

United should have gone with Conte before Tottenham poached him. Would easily have won trophies with that squad and Conte in charge

The problem with Rodgers, and I acknowledge this is going to sound harsh, but he a bit of a record for falling at the final hurdle. Winning the cup was good but considering the positions Leicester were in last season and the season before, not making the CL is a bit questionable. Weren’t they 11 points clear of 5th at one point? And again, the aforementioned Liverpool title race, the win streak they went on just to lose it at the end (throwing away a 3 goal lead at Pulis’ Palace too)

He also had a bit of a record for wasting money at Liverpool. Moreno? Lovren? Markovic? Borini? Balotelli? They spent £100 million and went from 2nd to 7th

Feel I’m dismissing Rodgers a bit here as he’s clearly on the whole, a manager that gets his sides playing (apart from us!). But do I think he’d be the manager to get United as title contenders again? Don’t see it

I think he would be. Two simple facts for me. 1 - the players that United have at their disposal should be able to challenge for trophies, 2 - Rodgers gets the best from his players, and improves them.

Agreed, but isn't he supposed to be lined for Man City?

Could see him at either Manchester club tbh. Pep has gone slightly under tha radar this season thanks to the OGS struggles at United but for me City are hardly pulling up any trees. I could see him walking away at the end of the season regardless of what they win or don't win.

Possibly

I think Rodgers works best with tight knit squads, isn’t as good at managing a larger squad, which is exactly what United’s squad is, even Martial is struggling to make the 20! man squad

Last 6 PL Games

Everton D 0-0
Leicester L 4-2
Liverpool L 0-5
Spurs W 3-0
City L 0-2
Watford L 1-4

Even that Spurs win was bad, as it meant they lost out on Conte

The Spurs win was against a team bottom of the current form table at that time.
Apparently, according to the United fans, that game meant they’d turned the corner

Going off-piste a bit.

Is Alan Deveonshire’s job at York Road secure right now?
