No, as when it was 0-0 it was Russia 1st and Greece 2nd as Russia had the better GD of the 3 teams on 4pts

not exactly. They would have the better record in a 3 team mini league between the 3 teams all on 4 points. not GD over all the games. Thats why a 2-2 draw between Spain Croatia would send them both through, even if Italy win 10-0.

How?

Russia 4-1 Czech
Czech 2-1 Greece
Greece 1-0 Russia

All cancel each other out so would have gone down to GD which was
Russia +3
Greece 0
Czech -1

No, it would have been:

Russia +2
Greece 0
Czech -2

same outcome, its GD on the matches between the 3 sides not overall GD.

So if its finishes Spain 2 Croatia 2 and Italy 10 Ireland 0, you have 3 teams on 5 points and they all drew with each other. GD on matches between the 3 would also be the same obv, but goals scored in games between the 3 would be:

Spain 3
Croatia 3
Italy 2

So Italy go out ,even though GD reads:

Spain +4
Croatia +2
Italy +10

I think :|

Schards#2 Oh, and LOL @ Ian Royal and Avon Royal bleating like small children throughout the 15 minutes that we have performed badly so far. Are they like this on the match threads from Reading games when were losing?

When the team played badly - we complained. When they played well - we complimented. You're right, that's hilarious

And yes, I for one am just like that during Reading games. Football is a passionate sport and some of us like to live in the moment.

My thoughts on Poland's exit and the Greece-Russia game that I went to.

I am astonished the Russians are out after the start they had, I had them down as outside winners. Arshavin again looks like he only turns up when he feels like it.

I watched the Czech Poland game, and the Poles were never really in it. The supposibly aging and pedestrain Czechs looked pretty comfortable particularly after they got ahead.

If you mean the Czech game, IMHO that was largely due to the shit Scottish ref who gave free kicks for any contact, encouraging much rolling around and grimmacing. A couple of times play was stopped for someone getting a slap on the face, they really need to man up.

One of the Greeks went down and was acting like he'd been stabbed in the leg, when in actual fact no contact was made whatsoever, stretchered to the side of the pitch to then get straight off of it and back on the field.

I would love to see these players shown it back afterwards and asked to comment. Going down easy is standard behaviour these days I know but things like that are so embarrassing it's unreal

Ian Royal I'm very happy with the results. I'm also happy with how we played in large parts of both games. I can't understand how you can be happy with two performances that included absolutely shambolic moments of completely self-inflicted suicidal play.

I appreciate the irony of you finding me bleating about a small period of poor performance in a game hilarious when you've bleated endlessly for no reason when Reading were doing fine.

I'm happy with the performance because we don't have a team of worldbeaters and, therefore, anticipate that we are not going to go through 90 minutes without the odd error. You seem to have a tabloid like arrogant belief that that England are the best, should beat everyone and it's a 'heads should roll' outrage if we don't.

As for your other point, even for you Ian that's pretty stupid, and that's a high bar. My criticisms of Reading have been about what was happening off the pitch making success on the pitch far more difficult. As soon as things changed off pitch, we never looked back. My few team board posts this season have been to take issue with people criticising our style of play and arguing we have to play to the limitations of our players. This is the exact opposite of your position that England's team of non worldbeaters are a disgrace as they not playing like worldbeaters.

Agree with that first point. We really aren't a great team, the performances for a team of our quality have been pretty good so far.

Not like you to label someone with a ridiculous straw man view because of your own blind prejudice Schards... not sure where that came from.

I simply expect a team not to self distruct and make it as easy as possible for the opposition to control the game and score. The thing that irritates, it that a blind person can see when England are about to conceed and why.

I fully expected England to struggle to get out of the group and to go out at the QFs if they managed to go through. TBH there's not a great deal of difference between this team and previous teams. Previous ones had more quality, but all have been just as clueless mentally.

Pretty much par though isn't it?

Anything more than QF would be an over achievement (though of course it can all depend on the luck of the draw)
