If it WERE just between us and Swansea, and he knew how much we all wanted him back - surely it would be a no-brainer? It's not over until a very fat lady sings as far as I'm concerned.

You think he gives two hoots about us wanting him back?

He needs to do what is best for his career, by going to a team that will play the style of football he prospers in, I'd say it's 60/40 in Swansea's favour.

We were playing 4-5-1 when Siggy was with us..We would have to change everything if he came back!
If Siggy was with us last year:
Midfield: Karacan, Ledge, Sig
McAnuff,Roberts, Kebe

That would mean no Hunt supplying the balls to Roberts and there would be a lack of cover for Harte since McAnuff would be pressing so far forward.
On the plus side it would mean three strikers on the bench/No Church but Le Fondre would be our second striker on the bench behind Hunt.
^^^Nice work! :)

Yes, but I'd say he prospered even more under Swansea's style.

I think the Swansea fans want him back just as much.

yeah but he spent YEARS at Reading as opposed to a few months with Swansea. He won't go there if we've offered a good deal. If a bigger club comes in, I would be gutted but wouldn't blame him for wanting to play there natch.

I think the fact that BR left has helped our chances massively. But I think it would still be 60/40 to Swansea as WR says. He fits their style like a glove :(

But that was before almost a week before Rodgers spoke to Liverpool and decided to go. Rodgers was key to that move, but of course it could still happen depending on the options open to him.

WBA could also get involved. They're very close to appointing former Hoffenheim manager Ralf Rangnick as their new manager.

Rodgers must surely have been a massive part of the draw to Swansea. Sig knew him and his style. But towards the end of last season there were signs that Swansea were being found out and Sig's quality really picked them up. They're ripe for a case of second season syndrome and Gylfi has no idea who the new manager will be, whether he'll be favoured and whether they'll play the same way.

He's been there with Hoffenheim.

He also knows Brian well, had a lot of good times at Reading and knows he'd be the focus of a team with big backing, looking to really go places. A team with momentum as well.

The second Rodgers left Swansea, their advantages over us took a hell of a beating. It's now got to be down to simply who is the most persuasive and who offers the better deal. Assuming the rumours are true and we're after him.

You can't fault him if he doesn't choose us. And you can't fault the club for giving it a bloody good go and at the right time.

Or conversely he may hold a grudge against us (NH/SJM) that we sold him when he was happy here and shipped him off to Germany.

He would know that he doesn't fit into the current team formation so him signing would mean we'd have to change it.

I'm also a bit miffed about how Rodgers goes on about how he gave Gylfi his chance in the first team. oxf*rd off, he played him a couple of times and then dropped him and it's only when Brian took over that we built a team around him that showed what a talent he is. I really can't see that Rodgers would have any "pull" factor.

+100% - I remember mentioning this in the past. Rodgers tried about 37 different players trying to find his "best" team. Gylfi was dropped and didn't play for a while. It WAS McD who allowed Gylfi to shine.

Gylfi made 17 appearances out of the 23 games under Rodgers and started 14 of them. Of all the criticisms you can throw Rodgers way (and I'm far from a fan), making out he didn't break Gylfi into the team is not one of them. He did.

Rodgers didn't know what to do with Gylfi when he was here. He recognised the talent but like most of the team he had no idea how to use him and consequently Gylfi kept being moved all over midfield.

How many of those was he played in a 4 man midfield?

The guy was clueless how to utilise the talent he had.

Considering that Rodgers tried to play 4-3-3 a lot of the time he was here, fairly little. It was only when he abandoned 4-3-3 and tried to go 4-4-2 that Gylfi suffered a bit and had to do a shift on the left.

He wasn't clueless with how to use the talent he had, his failure was trying to get them to do too much too soon.

From what I've heard Gylfi had a great relationship with Rodgers and thats one of the big reasons he went to Swansea on loan in the first place.

The 4 or 5 months that Sigurdsson played first team football under Rodgers set him up well for McDermott to use him centrally more often. Throwing him straight into our team as the central player he was more often deployed as under McDermott probably wouldn't have worked as well.

Rodgers gave him his debut and launched him into the Premier League as the fulcrum of the Swansea attack. Of course their relationship will be a influencing factor.

I thought he only played him a couple of times then dropped him?
