Winston Biscuit Livramento goes to Newcastle for £40M

Seems very steep. Lot of potential there but thats far too much money imo.

Southampton are laughing though. If they can sell Ward-Prowse and Lavia along with parachute payment money they can revamp their entire squad and put themselves in a great place for years to come.

This is where parachute payments are increasingly ridiculous - if clubs can sell players for around double the average revenue of a Championship club, they're hardly needed.

West Ham United have agreed deals for Manchester United's Harry Maguire and Southampton's James Ward-Prowse worth about £60m in total.

Liverpool seem likely to finally agree to pay what Southampton want for Lavia, only taken them several weeks of piddling about to get there. Didn't realise that Liverpool currently have one of the smallest squads in the PL so presumably still have other business to sort out (great way to give your manager every chance to get things sorted in training before a new season).

Club transfer policy is so bipolar, it's odd. They got Mac Allister and Szoboszlai done quickly, quibble-free (albeit the former on a release clause) for £100m combined, but have spent a month quibbling over relative pocket-change with Southampton on Lavia.

But yeah, they've gone from over-stocked in midfield to losing Fabinho, Henderson, Milner, Keita and Ox, and suddenly look like. Injuries could destroy their season.

On the flip side, Ben Doak has looked outstanding in pre-season. I'd expect him to play a part this year.

Would say that was probably a decent bit of business.

Will be interesting to see if Maguire can capture the form he has for England and while he was at Leicester. Maybe some time out of the spotlight will rejuvenate him.

JWP signing for West Ham is a bit of a no-brainer for them, will surely slot in nicely.

I fear Maguire might have checked out mentally, had dogs abuse for a long time now from certain sections of United supporters and the press. If I were him I'd have tried to ride that Saudi gravy train.

Ward-Prowse is a top level Premier League player and had no business being in the Championship, it is a good move for him and West Ham imo.

On Maguire, hopefully not - would be good from an England perspective if he can rejuvenate his club form. But yes, it certainly is a possibility - will surely show how mentally tough he is this season.

For reasons I never understood it seemed to be acceptable to criticise (which then leads to abuse) Harry Maguire in a way that was not seen as the norm for others

I never quite understood it. Was like he became the pantomime villain who everyone just agreed could be abused relentlessly

He is a very quick winger who Klopp gave bit parts to last season and is still very young.
The new signings have brought the average age for the squad down considerably.

Believe Celtic fans raved about him and the few bits I've seen of him he looks like he could be something special, needs match time though and Liverpool are decent at giving that. Shame he's not English though.

It’s insane, with at least another 80m or so incoming before the window closes, you’d expect.

Not sure how champ clubs can compete.

Ross Barkley signs for Luton and looks incredibly pissed off about it.

Feels like a good fit for West Ham. Think he'll do well there without much pressure on him.

Liverpool's board's faffing around with offers lower than Soton want for Lavia could cost them as Chelsea now looking at a deal for him.
