Nasty players

by southbank1871 » 09 Apr 2012 16:07

Inspired by the Michael Brown thread, who are the nastiest players you've seen play? I'm not talking necessarily about so-called 'hard men' here, but players who intentionally look to break legs on occasion.

Ones so far from the other thread:

Michael Brown
Kevin Muscat
Lee Catermole
Joey Gudjonsson

I'm also going to throw Ben Thatcher in there.

Serious suggestion or not?

The Cech incident wasn't meant, and I struggle to remember other dirty tackles he's earnt a reputation for? You'd need a handful to justify the tag of nasty player.

Chris Morgan - now player coach for the Blunts and another Colin Product - yielded a record 6 Red cards for them - never thought he was anything other than a malicious thug - got a sympathy vote from the Premiersh!te-driven media when someone (McCulloch) severely decked him during a game and I think he played on regardless - quoting 'part and parcel of the game' etc etc ? :?

Whacked RVP in the chest a fortnight later and put Hume in hospital with a fractured skull a couple of years on.

... oh and in 'all my years of watching RFC blah blah blah' - think I'd also vote for

Niall Quinn for his GBH on Adie W in the Cup Replay @ EP
Barry Kitchener for Millwall
Shotton 'n Briggs combo at Poxford

... probably plenty more but we had a few tasty lads ourselves in the thuggery dept- Moreline, Lewis and Shipperley to name but three from the late 70s.

... and of course the superbly apt-named Roger Joslyn. :D

Pablo Alfaro and Javi Navarro were pretty hardcore for Sevilla few years ago. Alfaro was sent off 18 times in his career and Navarro wasn't much better. Navarro was banned for 5 matches after he nearly knocked Juan Arango's head off:

Surprised no mention of Dennis Wise yet. He was a proper dirty little player. He would also offer out his hand to pull you back up but then pinch and dig his nails into the players under arm.

Also, and my favourite - Vinny Jones.

He would learn who the ref was, find out the names of his wife and kids and where they lived, then approach the ref before the game and ask about them. He would intimidate the ref before a ball was kicked. Top top work!

Surely Chris Morgan is in this list?

Awful thug of a player.

I'd add John Terry too.

EDIT....Someone got there before me. That elbow on Hulme? (Possibly wrong spelling) Makes me shudder thinking about it.

How has there been no mention of Balotelli? Spiteful little fecker!

Richard Carpenter can also be added to the list for ending Chris Casper's career.
