I wasn't expecting a great performance. We know we don't have technically gifted players, so we can't expect too much right now. I got pretty much what I expected tonight, an unconvincing draw. Hopefully St Georges Park and the changes we're making will make things better in future.

Barry the bird boggler but I think any team that beats us though should have to work for it. The crap that I've seen since Hodgson took over though is incomprehensible. Boring play, seemingly no movement, unadventurous - god I see better play from Reading on occasions! If that's progress then its backwards.

Probably worth noting then that Hodgson's record so far is 7 wins and 4 draws, with no defeats and only (I think) 6 goals conceded. Sure, we might be considered lucky to have come away with a draw tonight, but we are, on results, proving difficult to beat, and score against, under Hodgson.

Before Hodgson was given the job there was a fair chorus saying 'let's play the English way and grind out some results' - no we're doing that, the predictable response is that we aren't very exciting to watch.

Tbh I think we missed Lampard - someone who could just keep the ball

Even Ashley Cole was poor which summed up tonight's performance albeit in probably our toughest game.

We should still get to Brazil 2014 but displays like this will certainly dampen the hype and expectations (potentially)

Just seemed very slow on the ball and shaky in defence.

Missed this game (aren't I the lucky one?) but 10 years on here and 10 years saying the same thing.

It's all about grass roots. At least there's some degree of hope now that St George's Park has opened, but it'll probably take another 10 years for positive results to be seen and then only if they concentrate on the coaching systems for youngsters. Unfortunately it's come too late for those already in mid-late teens.

Hope I'm around to see it (the fruits from the investment in St George's) but in the meantime I think I'll be watching our national team less and less. After decades of this sterile style of play (which is all we are currently capable of producing) it's just hard to care too much anymore.

Usual England away stuff, got the goal, didn't trouble the keeper a great deal. Poland were fairly lame and didn't look like they had a goal in them, even so England weren't convincing enough for the win so the draw was a fair one in the end.

Cleverley was the pick of the England players for me, still learning the ropes but a decent shift.

We need to do what we did for the Olympics - grass roots lottery money invested into the next generation. Can't see us winning a tournament in my lifetime at the mo.

Not going to happen - the tabloid-mentality will set in and we'll apparently be shoe-ins for winning the thing the moment the qualifiers finish.

Problem is our players are too heavily paid AND get paid for their country! That is what is wrong IMHO

Look at Spain, for example: they don't get paid much at all, hence their success.

Right, Spanish players are on the bus to the game with the fans are they? Hadn't realised that.

I don't think that Correlation necessarily implies a causation, but perhaps that was Robs point and he was being sarcastic....

Archie's penalty http://rightbankwawaeuro2012.wordpress.com/2012/10/18/two-very-different-feelings/

My take on last night.

Well written. I hope you are wrong about England's development under Hodgson. You are right they play too many long balls at the moment, bypassing the midfield and therefore giving up possession too cheaply. Hopefully this will change.
