Rotherham going down means Barnsley have to go up now, if my conspiracy theory is to be proven correct that the clubs have an agreement to switch places with each other every season and they have never actually played each other.

Rotherham and Barnsley last played each other in April 2021, they have played each other 62 times since 1919.

Very tasty Championship relegation battle this year. 4 points separating 16th and 23rd.

I reckon today's results should really be enough to see Leicester through to the Prem.

Pompey all but promoted too

It could be teams playing in blue win all 3 divisions outside the Prem-add Chesterfield from the Conference and that would surely be some record.

Have to say I'd be delighted if the current Championship bottom 3 come down. 3 more Yorkshire away days.

I think there's more chance of them getting promoted now than not, especially as they've got a game in hand (even if that game is against Southampton).

I think Birmingham fell into the bottom three yesterday, behind Huddersfield.

Would want Stoke to go down myself: partially due to the away they've been getting around FFP with their owners being primary sponsors, but mostly due to Stoke being in the handful of current Championship grounds I've not been to (not been to Rotherham either). Don't think it's particularly likely though (they do play both Plymouth and Sheff Wed though).

In the 51 seasons since they were relegated to the bottom tier in 1972/73, Rotherham have changed division 22 times, including in six of the last seven seasons.

Remains of course very unlikely, but Leicester, Ipswich and Leeds can all still reach 100 points. Highest points total in the EFL not to achieve promotion is 90, Leeds currently four short of this in third, with five to play.

There is something in this. In the last decade, despite both clubs being perennial Championship/League One bounce-around-ers, Barnsley and Rotherham have competed in the same league only twice.

Funny how things are cyclical. We stayed up a while at the expense of clubs like Ipswich and Derby who are now in a much better place than us. But this season it looks like 3 strong L1 clubs could go up in Pompey, Derby and Bolton, so if I were a fan of Stoke, QPR, Birmingham, Huddersfield etc., who have been circling the plug hole for several years, I would be very worried about next season.

And when 3 of them come down in 2025, we could be a further year developed under new owners and favourites to go up ahead of them. It would be nice to turn the tables on Huddersfield in particular, given last season and 2017.

Given that they still have to play Leicester and Leeds, it's probably also noteworthy that Southampton can reach 96 points.

Watford (H)
Preston (H)
Cardiff (A)
Leicester (A)
Stoke (H)
Leeds (A)

Based on those fixtures I would say Leeds will join Leicester going up automatically. Right now everyone Ipswich have left to play have something to play for (may be different by the time the fixture comes around of course)

Thats a pretty nice set of fixtures for Leeds. The Southampton game is on paper almost the perfect fixture. Playing a team who likely can't move anywhere in the table and their next game after is the first leg of the play offs.

Maybe I am dismissing Southampton too easily from the equation. Just looks a point or 2 too far for me. and they have rubbish GD compared to the others. They would likely have to win their last 6 games to stand a chance, and are currently in pretty poor form winning 4 of their last 10 games.

could have 4 teams finishing on more than 90 points, ever happened before?

Would Leicester not going up be the biggest bottle job in the Football League?
