106 watch

by Chaney » 20 Sep 2008 17:13

Well it can`t be argued that they look hugely impressive early season, thrashed previously unbeaten Preston on their own patch today, as I said still very early but is our 106 points under threat?..this thread should follow their progress as the seaon unfolds!

This is Wolves we're talking about. I'll start worrying in March.

If there's not an opportunity this season to post that pic the they'll have let us all down.

I can't see the 106 ever being beaten again. I know many will have said it when S'land had the 105 but it takes some doing.

Wolves will slip up.

Hennessay (sp?) and Iwelumo three games bans now for straight reds isn't it?

Seriously can we stop these threads every year folks? We had the same with Cardiff and Watofrd last season, seriously I'd be very very surprised if anyone got near that record anytime soon and certainly not this season, the league is too competitive. Wolves and despite today Bham will be the two teams to beat this year but I can't see either getting close to 100 points.

Stop being so bloody miserable.

We've got a record that we should rightly be proud of. To be concerned, even early on, that someone might take that from us is perfectly reasonable.

You mean "This is Wolves we're talking about. It won't be an issue by end October."

Incidentally, 13-in-a-row watch, which I do observe religiously every year, lasted only a couple of weeks this season.

Well, this is of course meat and drink to me --witness the aforementioned "Record-breaking form from Cardiff" and "Worried by Watford?" threads of two seasons back and last season, respectively-- and I look forward to counting them down and out all over again...but I've got to say that the perennial mass jitters over the points record have arrived about five weeks early this campaign!

'greed. Jolly early but I can confirm that in Div 2 Luton are already out of the running and Bournemouth already need a win in their next match to stay in the race.

Bracing now for the inevitable slanging match over whether their respective league-mandated points deductions should or should not count against their season's haul...

I was thinking at the start of the season about the records we hold and whether it would be worth having a thread tracking how they are faring. The four I came up with were as follows:

1) 106 pts in a season - can't see it being beaten, but not worth thinking about until mid-March at least (when most teams should have dropped out of contention)

2) 13 wins at the start of the season -as Cube says, this one was safe from very early on.

3) 33 consecutive unbeaten games in Tier 2. Depending upon whether we're talking about in a single season or spread across seasons, but I can't see it's worth thinking about this one until half the season is gone at least.

4) 1103 minutes without conceding a league goal. If any goalkeeper comes close to this I'll be surprised - it's over 12 games of action with no goals conceded.

I'm sure there are probably a few others I've not thought of, but these are the main ones for me. I did wonder about fewest losses in TIer 2, but ISTR that someone mentioned a team losing just one game at this level, so I'm ignoring that one for the moment.

Well...yes --it started out as a Watford worry thread and later morphed into Swansea.

Season before last, it was Cardiff.

There was the whole Leeds issue what with the points deduction, until they decided that yes they were indeed crap, points deduction or not.

Depends who we decide to put into the first team though. Could be a good thing, could just not matter.
