Virginia Water 0 Reading City 3

Eleven games unbeaten for the (ahem) ‘citizens’

tmesis Could be a bit of a nightmare getting to the Bracknell v Ipswich game. Only 94 parking spaces for the general public, and no trains running on Monday.

There's plenty of other parking within walking distance if you know where to go. If you need tips, let me know.

I think I've identified a few roads that look promising. I'll probably go early and have a pub meal, then walk to the ground.

As it turned out, a bus was also a decent option, unless there was a long injury delay.

I can see anyone thinking they can turn up at about 7 having real problems though.

Windsor have real problems.

Got rid of previous manager Mark Cooper close season, local hero MICK Woodham returning, but it’s been anything but plain sailing. The odd good performance with mostly rubbish.

Woodham is obviously scouring his contacts and has already used 51 players this season   without settling on a winning formula.

I have been to a few games but am finding it difficult to get my arse down there (combination of age (probably), antipathy and the National Hunt season starting to get into full flow).

The club is stagnating with a Chairman who has now alienated most of the volunteers and supporters through various poor moves. On a personal level I rather like the guy but he really does need to go. Rumours are that he has been offered decent money but for some reason has not accepted the offers. Odd because every year he has to pump in another £10-£20k to keep things going. Cut yer bleedin’ losses man!

It’s not as if it is a cash business and he could be creaming some off the top. It’s card only, everywhere in the ground, which in itself has pissed off a lot of people.

And we still don’t pay the players. Competing at this level without a budget is more and more rare and every season we seem to be left a little further behind.

Unless Woodham can unearth some gems pretty damn soon we are going to be in a long battle against relegation.

Irritating thing is that Memorial car park is closed to all but media and staff. There’s the second smaller car park (94 spaces) but that’ll probably be full before 6! The other car park is at the library but that really is a small car park.

Bracknell have put together an FAQ about the game on their website

https://www.bracknelltownfc.com/brackne ... formation/

Think there’s a decent amount of street parking available in Sandhurst, College Town and Owlsmoor for some and perhaps it’s not yet crossed the mind of those at the Meadows to restrict their parking to just M&S and Tesco patrons (Tesco shuts at 11pm) though that is a fair bit further to walk.

For those who have managed to secure a ticket for the match.

There are five pubs in Sandhurst, The Village Inn, The Swan, Rackstraw’s and The Wellington Arms opposite the Memorial Park Field and the Rose and Crown that is in the opposite direction away from the station.

There are numerous takeaways: Greggs, Domino’s, SilverSea Fish and Chip Shop, Herbies and Papa Johns to name a few. There are Tescos Extra and Co-Op stores.

As to parking there is Pyre Acres opposite the Wellington Arms on the Yorktown Road otherwise it is street parking good luck.

Traffic on the Yorktown Road in both directions is not the best when schools and work finishes, with journey times from the Rackstraws lights to the Sandhurst shops taking up to 10 to 15 minutes to drive the half mile.

Expect long delays so I would recommend allowing plenty of time if travelling by car to the area.

Bit wet/drizzly but the ground is tidy enough, if still with the touch of the ‘unfinished’ two years after opening - but plenty of scope for upgrade should they manage to progress on the field.
Recently came up out of the Oxford Senior Leagues having dabbled briefly in the lower reaches of the Hellenic and were long serving members of the Midland Combination before that. They don’t really seem to know where they belong - ‘Pyramid’-wise’ – they would be a remote outpost whichever of the four surrounding league ‘footprints’, they decided to place themselves within.

And after Plymouth’s terrible performance at Grimsby on Saturday, Bracknell now face the best side left in the FA Cup! Really just hoping for a result that is not embarrassing for Bracknell.

Pissing down much of today on a pitch that never drains well, and a wind gusting to 34mph tonight could help level things up a bit.

And before anyone says anything, Bournemouth used to be in Hampshire until the same mostly ridiculous and unnecessary county line fiddling about in 1974 that lost North Berkshire to the world.

Bracknell did well enough, battled for everything, but the gulf in class was pretty huge.

TBF Ipswich should have won by a few more.

Maybe but very decent by Bracknell for the first hour before the proverbial "kick in the teeth" from an own goal and after that with the Tractor Boys' vastly superior fitness levels it was all downhill. It was obvious there was a gap in class from the beginning but Bracknell possibly did better than expected. It's a learning curve for them and considering Ipswich are the best club left in the competition on league position I think Bracknell can be happy with things overall. If there was a fault I think it's perhaps they showed Ipswich too much respect at times and tried for an extra pass or sitting off. Thought the defender Anthony Cheshire (?) was possibly their best player on the night.

Standard comedy moments with BBC Berks last night; Ady "confirmed" the 2nd round draw for the winners was Burton (it's actually Buxton), also Bracknell's postponed Wednesday game v Truro is still alive and well in their kingdom and they jokingly talked of going down to cover it.

Not been a good few days for Ady, Tim and Mick. First the Preston cr@p, then they covered Maidenhead losing at home to Dagenham, then it was off to cover the ladies for their standard defeat to Man City. So after last night they've covered 4 games live in a row, all of which "their team", the local side, has lost. Hopefully they'll fail to turn up at Vicarage Road tonight.

Oh indeed, on reflection my "well enough" comment sells them short.

For their level they did very well (105 places between them in the league structures I think they said?). They have every reason to be very happy with their performance.

Not that many games on this midweek just gone and the rain took a few more out besides (certainly the one's I was pondering) :| :

Up at the Pyramid's peak in the NAT - National Maidenhead drew 0-0 @Yeovil whilst Eastleigh thumped Maidstone 5-2 at the Silverlake. Dorking Wdrs drew 3-3 at Torquay

Banbury and Brackley were both held in NAT-North - as were Kings Lynn, enabling Darlo to leap to the table top there.

In the Southern section Hungerford were beaten again but only narrowly 2-3 at Hemel. 'Sluff' got a double-blank (0-0) at Welling as did Farnborough at home to Eastbourne and Oxford City were edged out 1-0 at Worthing.

B&B results over on the Team Bd thread - Marlow and Chesham progressing....

In the Isthmian South Central Binfield's form continues to stutter rather going down 1-2 at Westfield

Very little of note in the Leagues below STEP04 - was another designated Cup week for most - those in league action that did dodge the damp included:

Wantage were held 2-2 by Brimscomb, AFC Portchester who romped 5-0 past Bournemouth to re-take top spot and in front of over 200 too.

...and finally ..... a surprise first defeat for Hellenic One leaders Pershore - undone 2-3 at home by the Stundents of Hartpury Uni.
