Someone on a Blades forum has claimed there is a hitch with the paperwork but it should be sorted soon.

Hitch with the paperwork? Did Hammond spill Waitrose hoi-sin duck wrap over the contract? Or perhaps due to a clerical error we have in fact signed Howard from 80's sit-com Ever Decreasing Circles. Perhaps our 'Mystery Right Back' will get to the bottom of this quandary.

They are. Read the bottom of the Cummings article.

It mentions one more player to come in. To be published soon.

It's hard to see what can be delaying the move. He's English so there are no work permit issues. I can't recall a deal taking this long to be sanctioned, do we know if it is supposed to be a loan deal (in which case the delay is even odder) or a permanent one ? If the Harper deal and this one were supposed to be an 'exchange' I wonder where we stand if Sheff Utd have messed up and the Howard deal falls through ?

They might not have got all the paperwork in on time, and are fighting with the FA over whether or not the deal can go ahead.

Worse case scenario is we sign him on loan next week and then perm in Jan. No worry.

Both reports in the Sheffield Star today state that Reading have paid a £300k fee for Howard.

Must be a permanent transfer rather than a loan.

The fee has gone down then, originally it was quoted as £500k IIRC.

Nonsense. He signed for Sheff Utd from Barnsley for £500k and was deemed a flop. You don't become worth twice as much.

You don't think that this Micky Mouse outfit are capable of messing that up as well.
After the Tommy Smith fiasco anything is possible.

Perhaps the paperwork's cocked up and we have to take him on loan until January when we can sign him permanently (or not if he's crap).

That article's dated 22nd August and the wording "United are sending midfielder Brian Howard the other way in a deal worth around £1 million" could be read as the total sum involved (ie Harps £800k, Howard £300k).
