Dawn Hammond was probably just arranging the reserves friendly with Basingstoke

That would be an excellent addition. We've got to get another central defender in - ideally one with some pace. Davies has something to prove - much like an Arsenal loanee a few seasons back;-)

Are you confusing him with Claude Davis? Curtis would walk into our side...

My feelings exactly. We can't rely on Mills, Ingi and Pearce being available for selection all season.

I would be happy to have the huge black centre back from Preston - Mawene. He is a class act.

if this happens it would be perfect for us and him.

he gets a guaranteed first team spot at a strong championship side

we get the extra cb we need and for nothing and hes better than what weve got now

Mills and Davies would be a great pairing, infinite improvement on any other possible pairing this club can currently offer. This is something we should definitely go for and must be affordable surely?

How much do you think Davies earns, playing as he does for a top 6 Premier League side..? Obviously you believe that Villa would pay him to play for Reading, but that's not necessarily so.

Anything we pay reduces their wage burden for a player they want to get up to speed. We wouldn't necessarily have to pay the whole wage to get him. Good Championship wages (which you'd have to assume we'd be able to afford if we are genuinely interested) would be a fair chunk out of his wages. Something like £5k - £10k a week off the wage bill and getting him playing first team games at a decent level isn't to be sniffed at.

paultheroyal Team that played Basingstoke.

Parish, L Young, Shorey, Hogg, Cuellar, Davies, Albrighton, Osbourne, Forrester, Bannan, Herd.

Rumour is Hammond was there to see and speak to Davies with O'Neil in company.

be interesting to see how many of these players get sold or loaned out over next couple of weeks with hopefully Davies to Reading

andrew1957 The Davies rumour may just have some legs. Villa have better options so may be prepared to let him out on a 6 month loan to get fit. If they pick up say 50% of the wages it might just be affordable to us.

I quite fancy Davies and Mills with Pearce and Ingi as back up.

Thats assuming they fancy you too.

They need him to get games under his belt after coming back from such a long and serious layoff (god knows we saw in Sonko how an injury can ruin a player) and so they'd probably be willing to cover a certain amount.

The parallels with Upson, where we could only have been paying about 25% of his wages at most, are interesting and I don't think the wages would be the problem some might make out. I think the problem is more likely to be the other offers they might get for him being better.

I would jizz. Doubt it'll happen though... I don't think Villa would pay all of his wages for the duration.
