We seem to never buy players from outside the UK though, generally they turn out badly but a few can come off well. Any decent, young English player will have their price inflated massively (think Carroll, Rhodes, Wickham) so that's why we tend to scout Ireland.

If we ramp up our scouting network we will hopefully be unearthing foreign gems soon.

We do have a lot of players which we picked up from domestic leagues. We do get the odd foreign gem though. Kebe was from the French league, for example. You are right that we could scout other countries more to get the bargains. I think Anton mentioned a desire to increase the scouting network in one of his interviews, so hopefully this will happen. I'm happy with the squad as it stands now though.

TheSiege This site, as well as having a total rainbow of views, also has great knowledge of football and the players who play the game that we love. If you look at RFC at the moment, you can see that we have some parameters where potential signings are concerned. This is not definitive but, we don't seem to want to pay more than 4m up front and we don't want to pay more than 30k in wages. Given these arbitrary options and assuming that we might need one or two players in January, who are the players that we might look at, who will come straight into the first team AND who will potentially make an instant effect. As we stand, Michu would have been brilliant but, he is gone already. Whittingham (widely talked about as the best player outside the Prem), has just scored a hat-trick against Wolves but, also, has recently signed a new contract. There must be others - particularly in Europe where some clubs are in deep doo-doos! A load of players were talked about during the Window but, many of them would not have come to us given the above fee/wages guess! Who are the players we might look at?

ive wanted peter whittingham for a long time. perhaps, if cardiff doesnt make it to the premier league this year he would be willing to transfer to us. (assuming we stay up). the argument against us getting siggy back was "where would we play him" due to us playing 442. however, this season we have been utilizing the 4-5-1 formation a lot so we could get another attacking midfielder in eventually. my next choice would be peter whittingham since gylfi probably isnt going anywhere for a few years.

Michu only went to Swansea because of Laudruup and he wouldn't really fit in with us

So has the excellent Pablo.
Is the quota rule for having so many British players in your squad still due to take place?
Is that why Brian concentrated mainly on English players this summer?
That's why Harry went for so many at Spurs and City did for a while as did King Kenny-regrettably his choices haven't come up trumps.

I wouldn't be surprised if we started scouting links in Russia through AZ. If this were to happen I would be very happy with this. Over the last 5 years or so much of the young talent in Europe has come from Russia. However with the league getting more competitve season by season, it makes me think that soon clubs such as us will find it difficult to find bargain buys that would work for us at this level immediately.

However with the size of Russia, it would be a very good place to send our scouts to pick out academy level talent as Russia will never be short of producing talent there will always be someone. By the sounds of things our academy is only going to get better thanks to AZ's ambitious plans for the club. Our scouting network is surely only going to widen as the years go by.

There are several Russian clubs spending like Chelsea now. Look what Zenit just spent.

Why do you think they won't snap up young Russian talent too?

Barry Hunter has just been poached by Liverpool from Man City as their new head scout.

The way Zenit played last night against Malaga the 100m euros they have spent has gone down the pan ,they were outclassed more than we were on Sunday. Malaga 3 Zenit 0. Remember you read it here first, Isco of Malaga will end up a better player than Iniesta.

What is even more impressive is that Malaga have had to sell alot of their best players (e.g. Cazorla), and Isco is definitely one to watch. We have a -100% chance of signing him.
