Centre Backs

by West Stand Man » 27 Oct 2014 13:34

There was an interesting debate pre-match on Saturday between Adie Williams and Tim Dellor regarding the CB pairing by the time we go to Pride Park at the end of the season. The gist of it was a wager that our CBs would be Rio and Anton Ferdinand by then. TD was pretty confident of it happening while AW was not; however, the reason AW wasn't convinced of the 2 of them playing together was because he thought it far more likely that Rio would be playing for us by then than Anton.

The logic is that Rio is not enjoying QPR and this is almost certainly his last season so wouldn't he like to go out having played in the same team (or at the same club) as his brother?

Discuss....

We won't pay Rio's wages.

I'd be severely tempted to bet against it happening.

It seems highly unlikely. Unless Rio was prepared to play for nothing I can't see us paying stupid sums just to let him play with his brother. It's not as if we owe Anton another favour at this stage.

I'd pay to see us sign John Terry as Anton Ferdinand's centre back partner. I wonder if we could coax Wayne Bridge out of retirement as a left back too.

I wouldn't, you could bet four years of Pogrebnyak's wages and still only make a few pennies.

Adie
