Every player has their price, but we should really be playing hardball here. 2 years left, Man Utd have a big sell on clause and he is one of our few contracted players. If Wrexham offer silly money like £5m+ then fine.

People need to re-calibrate their valuations to League One levels. I'm not sure there's any player at the club that we wouldn't accept £2m for.

It not about what he's worth, it's about how much we can fleece Wrexham for given they not backward in coming forward about how much money they have to spend.

We also have to hand 50% of it to Manchester United.

If Sam Smith is worth £2m then Charlie Savage, with a much higher ceiling and longer left on his contract is worth at least twice that.

I expect once you think about payments in instalments and achievable add ons such as 1st team appearances, international appearances and promotion to the PL (which I think Wrexham will achieve in 3 - 5 years), it's quite possible the full package will end up at £5m+. That's not the same as them giving us £5m this summer.

Yeah, and its already very clear there's at least a +100% Wrexham premium.

JedMaxwell I wouldn't like him to go, especially to Wrexham, but the reality is that a decent offer plus the player expressing a desire to leave, equals losing that player.

However I am sure his dad will counsel him wisely. Next season he will be one of the first names on the team sheet and we could have a very good year. Wrexham may not fare particularly well against seasoned Championship opposition and I think they will be in for a tough time of it, and there's no guarantee he'll be starting every week.

If I were him, I wouldn't let the current Wrexham manager be an influencing factor on any decision he has to make. Talyking to a real die-hard Wrexham fan (been through all of the shyte times, rather than arriving post Hollywood), the fan base are quite divided on their views about Parky. Whilst he has got them the points and promotion they don't particularly like his style of football and the fan I was speaking to said he would struggle to think of more than a couple of games (he went to them all, home and away) that he really enjoyed last season. He said we absolutely destroyed them at the SCL and he can't see Parky's style of football working against similar and better 'footballing' teams in the Championship. His view was that the Hollywood boys will likely be lining up someone else to take them on the next stage of their quest.

Parky was available at the right time, really, near about any manager would have succeeded the way he has done at Wrexham. He's basically been able to boost his standing in the game for very little effort.

Ungrateful prick. Anyone saying they barely enjoyed any games finishing second is a massive arse

Did you enjoy our 2016/17 campaign when we finished 3rd in the league?

Obviously. The football was often a bit dull and doomed long term, but there was lots to enjoy.

It is only "obviously" if all you care about is the end result. The football was dull and uninspiring. I can personally say there were plenty of games I did not enjoy that season. Does this make me a "massive arse" as well? Football needs the balance of entertainment, results and fan engagement. However, calling someone a "massive arse" for stating they didn't enjoy many games in a successful season is a bit unnecessary.

Plenty didn’t enjoy =/= only enjoyed a couple.

I'm not talking about you, but if you're offended, I guess you would be the one who knows if the cap fits.

I feel your response is acting in the same manner a petulant child would, seeing someone not being as grateful as they would be, should they be in that position. I just thought it was unnecessary. It just doesn't come across as very mature. Mind, I suppose I could have just ignored your coment, would have probably been for the best. For the record, I'm not a "massive arse", I'm a "fucking prick". To quote my nearest and dearest.

Going off topic slightly but having blitzed through the Welcome to Wrexham series recently, which in itself was interesting and good TV I am a bit more aware of the Wrexham story and the "characters" behind it.

I stumbled upon this yesterday https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCzjKqV_L80 and watched from start to finish which is a Q&A with Shaun Harvey discussing loads of topics and one of the areas of discussion was player recruitment.

The Sam Smith transfer was discussed at length but also Harvey made the point they are a very good sale to any prospective transfer targets who were previously based in 1 of the 4 Merseyside/Manchester academies given they spent the vast majority of careers in the North West which was one of the selling points for Smith as he was able to go closer to home. It made me think of Savage straight away given he is a North West lad and also his Welsh roots, I would be very surprised if they weren't actively targeting him.

They better give us good fees given the damage Harvey has done to this club in the last 8 years.

Ian - how many games that season did you actually see live? (ie at the ground)

Because to sit through that week in week out was not a particularly enjoyable experience.

(Fair play though if you watched all of them and got off on it - it takes all sorts)

We all want to see decent football, even if we differ on what it is, but at the end of the day you go home feeling better with a win. I didn't particularly enjoy a lot of McDermott's Championship title winning football, with all the spoiling in midfield and pouncing on mistakes, and could see it wouldn't work in the PL, but it was still fun watching us win the league.

Stam had us playing boring football, but there weren’t many people complaining much at the time, even if they'd have preferred a betterr style. That came the next season when it fell apart.

The we want to see good football always evaporates the second a team is doing badly.
