Agreed. It would be difficult to over state just how important he could be next season.

Got to say the Hearts fans are a funny bunch. Obsessed with him and can't accept that he may have improved between the ages of 22 and 28.

I reckon we might be the same about Joao Virginia

Iirc, played one game for Everton (possibly a mickey mouse cup game) but played a ‘blinder’ and a clean sheet.
Lots here ‘wrote-off’ Stephen Hunt as a poor signing, back in the day, lol at yous

I don't think so.

He was 18 and should never have been put in that position.

I'm sure there's examples of players who were dreadful for us but did fine elsewhere.

For whatever reason that was pretty much every established Championship forward when they came to Reading.

I remember the BBC doing an article in 2015 about the Championship team of the decade. Half of the strikers had played for us and none had done brilliantly here, but had obviously been successful elsewhere.

By his own admission, he had an absolute shocker of a loan spell at Hearts. They got relegated the season he was there.

Glenn Murray - actually fine at Reading, enough for Pardew to recall him and stick back in the Palace team rather than sell him to us like we all thought had been agreed
Billy Sharp - thought he was ok but got mucked about by owners
https://www.readingchronicle.co.uk/spor ... -fc-spell/
Lewis Grabban - got played of position by the tactical genius that was Stam
Chris Martin - was actually fairly ill when at the club
Matej Vydra - just one of those things, nothing really worked for him but he put the effort in and seem to vaguely remember on several occasions his failures were because of utterly dreadful refereeing decisions

Vydra is a good example actually. Had a terrible record here (somewhat caused by being misused), but only the most dimwitted would deny he could be a good player or had done well elsewhere.

His record was very up and down iirc. Very much a confidence player who had to be in the right place at the right time.
