Big Ern All this Big Club bollox. Why does anyone really give a toss, it;s results that matter, nowt else.

If brighton fans feel that makes them better than us, then so be it. Let them think what they want, as stated already in this thread I would have taken our clubs furtunes over the last 10-15 years over theirs.

'greed. When they've had a couple of Championship play-off finals and 2 years back to back in the top flight then they might have something to throw about, other than AIDS.

The thing about considering history when you're big a club is that most of the supporters will actually have no memory of it. It's like my old housemates who were Liverpool fans trying to claim they are as big as Man Utd because of the Shankly era. And? You weren't born. How does it affect you? Look at recent success, facilities and fan base and it's clear Man Utd are bigger than Liverpool.

It can be a similar story in the Championship. There are clubs who have smaller stadiums and lower attendances than us, with far less success in the past 10-15 years. They claim to be a "bigger" club based upon some ancient success which is either a distant memory or before their lifetime altogether.

is that just cos our successes are more recent?

it's very subjective isn't it....and most supporters will see their club as 'big'. there are a few clubs that the consensus agree are big

but the whole my club is bigger than yours...childish imo

club size is made up of all sorts of factors.

historical achievements
silverware
stadium size
fan base
travelling support
current playing level
average playing level over entire history.

its hard to put all that together- but winning the championship a few years ago and finishing 8th in the prem is probably worth an FA cup win in victorian times imo.
but doesnt eclipse liverpools 18 league titles regardless of when they are

Big club, a term used by small clubs with some history over 40 years ago, to justify their exsistance today.

lmao modern day football, when Brighton claim they are a big club they are just having a sense of humour, they are trolling because there is just no way they are serious.

If the premiership was full of teams whose fans thought they were " big clubs" and deserving of it, then it would be about 70 teams big and you could split the english league into two divisions. I really do utterly hate modern day football fans and their silly arrogance, brighton are just another set of delusional fans.

Are they delusional, or trolling?

Terminal Boardom Wasn't it the late 60s early 70s that we played at the Goldstone in front of 30,000 plus for a Div 3 game? IIRC, Bobby Williams was asked about the attendance and he said that it felt like they were all iin Reading's penalty area. IMHO, Brighton traditionally is a bigger club than Reading. What matters, is where each club finishes the following season. I for one have a feeling they could go straight up.

I remember going to the old Goldstone Ground circa 1975/6 when Peter Ward was playing for them and Eamonn Dunphy for us and there were around 27,000 there.

We lost two-nil and took 100 fans in two coaches.

The sort of clubs that would have a full house for a play-off semi final, tv coverage or not.

may only be a rumour but it would be nice to get one back for Sidwell, Ingarmarrson, Coppell, Brooker etc.

lol

Not sure why they're complaining about Sidwell and Ingimarsson, those players weren't even theirs in the first place.

LOL

In a piece of received wisdom surely borne out of a need to placate upset children, it is considered good luck to be defecated on by a bird.

Perhaps that was the thinking behind this eye-catching seat placement work by some especially alturistic builders working at Brighton's Falmer Stadium, which hosts its first match this Saturday, 16 July?

Or, more likely, the workers were Crystal Palace fans intent on prolonging the surprisingly intense but geographically perplexing rivalry between the two clubs.

Either way Brighton are not amused, and have now re-arranged the offending seats and added them to their seagull logo's tail.

They're not entirely humourless down in Sussex, though, as the seat-relocation process has been termed a "clean-up operation"

They have more money than sense down there, if that had happened at the Mad Stad, SJM would simply have designated that area of seating as the family stand, "...as represented by the baby buggy ident".

It's a few years out of date now, but Leeds couldn't even sell out Elland Rd against us in April 2006. Third vs first, in the final few weeks of the season, with automatic promotion still on the cards for Leeds, and they drew in 24,500.

(Yes, Kes, that was still more than would have been at the Mad stad for the reverse fixture.)
