Premier League Swans and Aston Villa both had bids rejected for Reading's versatile attacking ace last summer.

If Villa had landed him last summer they wouldn't be in the mess they find themselves in now

It would be interesting to know if those clubs really did bid for him and how much.
Swansea are an odd club (looking from afar) as they have had good wingers with 4 still on the books.
Routledge plays
Barrow comes on as a sub
Montero is no longer a starter
Dyer is on loan at Leicester

I have always rated Dyer and (unless he has been nicking stuff again) I don't get why they would let him go to Leicester where , with quite a few sub appearances , he might even end up with a League winner's medal.whilst Swansea flirt with relegation.

Sutekh So Reading FC and it's **** policy of avoiding speaking to senior players about contract renewals until as late as possible is probably going to lose us another of our better players (better now that Brian's back of course).

Well done boys, another masterstroke.

1) he's done nothing for two years
2) he's told the club he's not talking until the end of season
3) we need to make further cuts to the wages as we lose another £8m in parachute payments and still had a wage bill of over £30m last season (hint: the only time it's been that high previously was when we were in the PL)

Clearly the club don't rate him as much as they did Gunter - maybe HRK's agent/brother has been bigging him up again. He may well get a move to a Prem side but bearing in mind he didn't even make the regular starting line of for RFC last season when we finished below mid table I doubt he'd get many games.

id imagine its perfectly possible for the club to rate HRK higher than gunter, but for gunter to be the one that gets the contract

+1 I mean lets face it, Gunter's likely to be on less, has no competition for his place so is more important to keep and likely to accept less. He's obviously quite happy here and isn't exactly the sort of player to provoke a host of interest.

Whereas if Hal does well in the remainder of the season and / or at the Euros he'll easily get a decent offer, which we almost certainly can't match. We'd have to be looking at him taking a pay cut, and he must know that.

Hal is like David Healy...Excellent for his country but very inconsistent at club level. We all know what he is capable of, but it only seems to happen around the transfer window or when he needs a new contract. I'd be happy to see him go and sit on Swansea's bench watching Gylfi boss their midfield........

Think myself and Brian would quite happily see him stay

The guy has matured and offers us more than what we would gain from his sale/offload

I think people have an unrealistic picture of how well HRK plays for Wales. He's only scored twice for them, and his performances are patchy at best. I think he's better for us than Wales.

I wonder if that might have something to do with him not wanting to consider one until the summer?

Hal is definitely under rated amongst our supporters. Our fans appear to be pretty poor when it comes to judging players and managers. They voted Al Habsi as player of the season for goodness sake.

Having said all that, I'm going to under rate Hal myself. I don't think he is good enough to play week in week out for Southampton. He would be a useful player for them to have in their squad though. I think he'd be best suited at Swansea.

The Welsh supporters understand just how good a player Hal is.
