i still dont know why we arent seriously looking into either signing him on a permanent or on loan. he is a great striker and he is proven in the premier league and he is currently out of favor with the spurs. would be some quality to add to our team at least for a season. realistically i dont see much of a chance of us signing him though, but it seems weird that we were heavily linked to him weeks ago and now there is nothing.he would be a better signing than rhodes, but i suppose were going after rhodes because he is "more realistic" of a signing. this is unfortunate because we just signed two players who everyone thought was out of our league.

Although Guthrie and Pog are two signings way above our usual targets in terms of quality. Neither have broken the wage structure. With Defoe, i belive he would ofg been on nearly double what the next highest wage is in our team. I imagine once we establish ourselves in the premiership for a season or two then we can start looking at this kind of player

maybe because he's a grade A idiot most of the time and we like to make "nice" signings (with the exception of Mills obv)

Maybe because we enquired and got totally rebuffed by either Spurs or by the player's agent?

There's still a question about whether Rhodes is out of our league to sign.

you dont think that Pog has smashed our usual wages...

The jump from 25k approx (Roberts) to 35k approx (Pogrebnyak) isn't as big a jump from what Defoe would be. Remember half our squads wages would of increased due to our promotion.

Defoes on roughly 60k a week. He would want at least that to move to Reading. Easily double what we were paying for a player last year. Don't get me wrong.I'd love to have him here, but we won't risk disrupting the whole backroom team spirit which Brian has built up incredibly over the last few years. Give us 2 solid successful years in this league and then i reckon we can start to look at this sort of wage for a player of equal quality as defoe.

Nope.

He won't be on the wages the papers were originally full of and the final figure he is on will be in the same ball park as the likes of Roberts or the other top earners.

I don't think this is going to happen, despite the resurfacing of this rumour! Would be :D if it did though!

This won't happen. Defoe will attempt to beast Anton's Mrs inside a week.

And given his track record, he'll probably succeed. And Anton knows it.

Well, he wouldn't have any trouble finding space in the box.

By the looks of it, he might actually have trouble finding the box itself.
