TBM
brendywendy Harte's highlights from Saturday
- left his man to have a free header in the six yard box for the first- gave Henry far too much space as he played the 1-2 with Trotter for their second (that's both poor position, marking and reading of the game all thrown into one)

Totally - i would also blame Pearce for the 2 goals too

For getting beaten for pace for the 2nd yes (you have to ask why he's been pulled out to the left wing to mark a central midfielder though). If Harte had been anywhere near the man he was marking (Henry again) the one-two would never have come off as he'd been in a position to block it and then Pearce wouldn't have got done for pace.

For the first though, I don't think he does anything wrong really. When the ball is on our right the back four are in ok positions and Harte is marking Henderson. I don't think that's a mistake (as brendy says Harte is very capable in the air) let alone Pearce's.

I think the goals came down to being a bit disorganised though. That's not surprising considering it was a completely new back four with a new player at centre half and Griffin on the right who'd just come back from missing nearly all of pre-season with an injury.

brendywendy no, i believe his positioning, heading free kicks to be strengths,
and you took some examples from the first game of the season which "prove" to you he doesnt possess them.
they do not prove it to me.

Heading and free-kicks I agree.

I'd say that over his career his defensive positioning has always been a litte bit suspect and last season was no exception really. He was covered quite well by McAnuff and a combination of centre backs but I wouldn't say it's a strength of his, but that's all a bit of a personal opinion that's open for interpretation.

Those examples weren't proof, they were just examples of how poorly he'd played against Millwall. My proof is just my general impression having watched him for years.

Just because it's a discussion forum really, and I was discussing the background to my opinion, and yours.

Hard concept to grasp I know.

Bah!

plus im pretty sure the word discussion means a little bit more than one person saying one thing, the other person saying another thing, then both saying the same things over and over again forever.

if its ok to dismiss my view of subjective, then its ok to dismiss yours as such.
&
i guess what i meant to say is that this discussion has probably gone as far is it is going to. at least from my point of view.
