+1 to your +1

We have been blessed with quality keepers in the past ten years or so....Feds was very much one of those, whilst whatever failings he was perceived to have had, he surpassed them by his excellent ball distribution........something that McCarthy sadly lacked, and we will now see both keepers swapping league their status's.

A huge hand in costing us our Premier League place [check]
A huge blunder costing us a potential FA Cup Final appearance [check]
Constantly moaning when he was rightfully dropped [check]
Near-post errors [check]
Annoying Aussie [check]

Good riddance.

At least we can be honest about the FA Cup semi mistake now, ie it was hardly a surprise that Federici would do something like that. He was a good goalie who made some great saves for us and for the camera, but there were some flaws in his game, particularly a knack of letting in really stupid goals on big occasions.

Still sad to see him go though and wish him good luck at Bournemouth. I'd play him if I were them.

Perhaps, with Mikkel Anderson currently our number one keeper, we'll realise that at our level, a brilliant shot-stopper with 'some flaws' is still a pretty damn good keeper.

And what were the club meant to do to keep, Bournemouth are in the PL now, we therefore would have no chance to keep any player with a half decent PL offer on the table. They're hardly going to want to stay and play in the Championship when they've got an opportunity to play at the highest level even if its only for a season. So all the cobblers about Hammond and Madejski being at fault over Feds, Karacan and Pearce is plain stupid.

The club also have to work within FFP, balancing what they have with what they want to do in the terms of going forward, this will mean unpopular decisions as well as popular ones.

Federici is a good keeper but there are better keepers about that could do a job here. Shame the club have now lost out on O'Donnell ....

Steve_Upper_West
AthleticoSpizz You could possibly be right Hoops

However, he has been around the club long enough to have seen what has been, to have seen what is, and to see what is to come.

He has raised his shares within the footballing community immensely in the past four or five years.

Time to wish him well and to quietly remember

+1

We would be looking at Div 1 now if it were not for Feds

Federici had a decent season but if he hadn't played i'm sure both Adkins and Clarke would've selected another capable keeper to play in his place....

I'll look back on Federici's time with mixed feelings. His tenacity to hang around and earn a place, his excellent form in the promotion year, his capable performances as back up to Hahnemann all played their part in a good Reading career. For me his ability and so called loyalty has long been overhyped and the memories of the above are tainted with a series of gaffs, his positioning for a move away and ultimately that howler at Wembley.

A decent keeper and a good servant to the club who was very well rewarded whilst here.
