MmmMonsterMunch JM has said on SSN that Wolves have not as yet made an approach to speak to Brian so there is clearly a lot of BS being reported.

Please stay Brian! God this would be truly awful if he went.

I can only hope that the Wolves chairman decides he needs someone with PL experience who will be ready for a dogfight & not a rookie.

Uke - agreed. Brian was less than enthused about TSI.

To be fair, he never sounds too enthused about anything. But I'd defo let him read me a bed time story.

Uke
79Royal For all the signings in January, McDermott’s signature should have been top of the list. Easy to say with hindsight, I guess.

Unless it wasn't top of TSI's list; or, having talked "football" to 1 am in the morning , McD didn't want to commit to the new Messiah after realising he may wish to influence team selection rather too heavily

I'm amazed how many people believed the platitudes at the "takeover" press conference

Well, you see the Press Conference was real, it actually happened.

Whereas your scenario is made up.

cmonurz Shows we are guilty, or I am at least, of under-rating McDermott to the point that I have to admit I've not once considered he might choose to leave the club at some point.

I’ve seen him as a future PL manager for a long time, possibly as long as 18 months, and have envisaged him going to Everton for example should Moyes leave. Moyes comments last summer regarding the Everton situation were very similar to what McD had said himself in the summer with the situation here. Pre TSI/Zingarevich I actually feared he would go in the summer if we had to sell again, he sounded so fed up pre-season, and his comments after Hull last month only reinforced that.

But as things stand now this doesn’t make much sense, especially at this stage of the season. He’s got the opportunity to become a legend here if he takes us up, and become our best ever manager in the process imo. Hopefully if true he’s just having talks with Wolves, to see what they have to say.

Tony Le Mesmer Still no clear Fav in the betting

Clark 10/3
Bruce 7/2
McDermott 4/1
Poyet 10/1

Shit, how come Poyet has drifted so much? :?

Because Wolves have denied they are interested in him - probably because it would cost too much as he has a long contract (5 years) at Brighton.

79Royal A year to year rolling contract may have worked for Coppell, but that doesn’t mean McDermott is happy with it.

Why sign it then?

Possibly, because it's the only contract that he's been offered that makes him the fulltime manager of a football league club?

People have suggested that he's come out and said he likes the way it works, but he's always said the same about everything abou the club as he's gone along hasn't he? He's not going to come out and say he wanted a 3 year deal but was only offered a 1 year contract as it would weaken his position with the players and also destablise the club. Neither of those things would work in his favour.

Perhaps that's why I offereed two differeing views? Because I don't know what happened

The press conference happened and bland product marketing announcements were made, but no promises

If you don't like something and feel it's not right for you then you either don't sign it or you negotiate.

McDermott to Wolves is the main story on the BBC Sport website.

So you think he'd walk away if the club (a frugal Madejski at the time) said they weren't going to entertain offering the manager more than a 1 year rolling contract because if it was good enough for Coppell then it's good enough for the Chief Scout/Resrves Manager stepping up out of shaddows?

Good job that wasn't already posted. There would be an outrage.

Why not? His stock had risen considerably since he first took over and he'd just taken his team to a Play Off Final. Plenty of negotiating space for him with us and others.

Different news story telling us nothing new, although I guess it saying that they haven't spoken to him yet is good news, although almost certainly based on nothing

Funny how this poll comes out at 44% for "none of the above".

Be very careful Brian - they will want your head on a stick if you get relegated.

Lots of managers have left Reading in the past & expressed that they've never had such a supportive set up etc. Lets hope he realises he probably won't get that level of support elsewhere.

Why not? He doesn't strike me as a gambling man or one that doesn't need his wage coming in yet so I doubt he'd walk away from his first job over the length of a contract offer.

He has ties to the club and had 18 months of success as a manager. I'm not sure that puts him in as strong a position on the market as you suggest. Would lots of clubs as good as Reading have been knocking on his door? Probably not.
