I think we have about as much chance of getting Defoe, as I have of nailing Cheryl Cole.

Just something I've been thinking about; at their best who was/is the better player; Defoe or Roberts? Seems to me that if Defoe hadn't made it to spurs he wouldn't be considered to be all that great. And he's not been amazing there.

Why are people playing Defoe's ability down?! He has bags of ability and would be our best player by a mile!

On the Roberts / Defoe argument, how many England caps, squads and major tournaments have each been part of?!... Defoe was and is a far better player.

If we're after Defoe looks like we'll be sticking with 4-4-2. Pog-Defoe could be deadly but I doubt we'll get him.

How can anyone question his ability? He's 17th in the list of highest scoring forwards in prem history. Of the 21 on the list only Rooney and Bent are younger than him. He still has at least 3 years at the highest level so could easily get into the top 10.

Would I have him at Reading? Oh yes please.

Every Reading fan on Twitter: "@JonnyFordham ask Brian about Defoe"

Jonny Fordham: "he said we're not going to buy him"

Every Reading fan on Twitter: "He lied about Alfie, definite smokescreen"

Every Reading fan on Twitter: "@PeopleAttendingSTARForum ask Brian about Defoe"

People Attending STAR Forum: "He said we're not going to buy him"

Every Reading fan on Twitter: I think we're about to sign Defoe

Random Bullshitter: He was at the ground for talks on Thursday

Every Reading fan on Twitter: This is the guy that said Sigurdsson was speaking to Anton and Brian and Rhodes was at the Madejski Hotel, it must be true.

Every Reading fan on Twitter: OMG were gonna sign Defoe

The irony is that Arnie and others said we'd made a tentative enquiry in April when we actually did and everyone said he was talking complete rubbish. Now Brian has said on multiple occassions that we enquired but aren't looking to sign him everyone's suddenly convinced we're definitely signing him

I am self-admittedly a bit of a football snob but when people start comparing chalk and cheese strikers like Defoe and Roberts it makes me want to go windmilling through the streets.

Ian Royal I think we have about as much chance of getting Defoe, as I have of nailing Cheryl Cole.

You lot are deluded both ways. Firstly he's a class act and would guarentee us 10-15 goals which could potentially keep us up. Which secondly means, we aren't getting him. None of our strikers could get 10-15 in chamionship let alone prem.

Poor, un-educated comment

Le Fondre got more than 10 goals last season, also if Roberts had of played for us all season, i think he would have aswell

Agree if we had Roberts from the start of the season he would have got at least 10, probably 15+ but the sentiment of KDRF's post is correct, even if statistically is wrong. There is a difference in class between Chump and Prem and it is better to have a proven Prem goalscorer as opposed to an unproven lower division player and a ex Prem player who is 34 and may not be able to cut it in the top league now.

Having said that, still doubt Defoe will sigh for us.
