Simon's Church If this is true can we finally put to bed all the 'special club' 'everyone wants to be here' nonsense that's always spouted by the PR team and admit it's all about the money, even for McD£rmott? Let's face it, if he wasn't given the big pay increase by the new owners he'd have ditched us like a shot for a brief stint in 'the promised land'.

Can't say I'm not disappointed, I thought better of him :(

Sadly it is beginning to look a bit that way. This must be very unsettling for the players and it would have been nice to have seen McDermott publically rule himself out at an early stage.

The fact that Wolves wanted to talk to him, together with our league position should have left him in a strong position to negotiate for a better contract at RFC, without all of the uncertainty this is causing.

Would have accepted him going and wished him well had the old regime still been in place with regular player sales forced upon him. However, in the new world I think he should have acted quicker to reaffirm his often mentioned affection for RFC.

Go on then, what did you expect him to do?

Show his loyalty to the club and say his wasn't interested when his name was first mentioned.

I wonder how many people who want to defend him also went ape-shit when Shorey, Hunt etc tried to get better deals for themselves

How do we know that McD has seen all the "rumours" flying around?..........how do we know that RFC haven't called him in to make sure his head doesn't turn, and they are now just tying up the legal stuff before anything is announced?!

MmmMonsterMunch LOL @ Dellor's article stating we'd get Coppell back. God no - that ship has well & truly sailed. Would rather give Dolan a go.

yeah, copps was fukkin awful werent he

Not saying that at all. But his time is over - the bloke has completely lost his hunger for it & you could see that in his last season. Thanks but no thanks.

I entirely disagree. His record with Crystal Palace, Brentford, Brighton and Reading is UNPRECEDENTED. There are good reasons for clubs like Man City and Bristol City being wary of him settling but we know that wouldn't apply here.

I agree his last season was problematic - he was fiercely loyal to players he knew were good enough - Doyle, Hunt, blind to those who werent- Rosenior, and had to cope with his whole team wanting to leave and his chairman struggling to be able to keep them.

That season was a gamble which we have paid for with austerity. But guiding a relegated team to a promotion challenge and a playoff place is not a given, so I would say he didn't do badly.

Even the season before we only went down on goal difference.

The guy had been in post a long time, was a little stale and recognised he needed a break. He has now failed at Bristol, would have a point to prove, and has made it clear he wants to get back in the game.

He plays a similar direct style of football to Brian, but is a very different manager, a hands off guy. Ok he won't be giving Kebe and McAnuff the belief, but he gave debuts to Federici, Pearce, Kebe, Karacan, N Hunt, Church...what other candidate would have such an advantage. The old issues of loyalty arent there though, as those players didn't play much or for long for Coppell.

A few wins in March and who would bet against a 2nd title?

Seen you have lost none of your pomposity.

And for your information a world where I quite frequently deal in employment negotiations with others.

And just why couldn't he have behaved in the manner I suggested?

Other managers have publically ruled themselves out of managerial competitions at an early stage to maintain stability where they are.

No it has not - it has been amalgamated with this thread because your thread was a rumour.
