southbank1871 I can envisage a number of their fans not being overly impressed with his appointment, as he's a relative nobody.

I posted a link the McDermott thread on the Wolves forums earlier in this thread - 4 pages at the time almost unanimous in their support of his potential appointment.

I just cant see how Mcdermott can be offered anything better at RFC as of right now given that the takeover has not even been signed, maybe thats the reason - the BM's agent piped up after the Wolves job became free and used some leverage with the RFC board but was told there was nothing doing presently. Its almost as if the 'delay' until due dilligence is completed in March has opened up a can of worms.

A little bit too much to this now to be seen as a 'hypothetical', surely?

Fair enough, I can just see there being some sort of backlash from them if McD takes them down.

It is obvious the Wolves have more financial clout than our soon to be Russian Oligarch owners...how do say "cloth cutting" in Russian?

cmonurz
MmmMonsterMunch Comeonurz - how the hell does he have more job security there? Sorry but that is utter bollox. The PL is far more cut throat than Div 1 & the fans will soon be on his back if he doesn't start getting results straight away. He will be under extreme pressure as they need to stay up.

If he failed to keep them up, I very much doubt he would stay on there. Plus he would then have the same budget constraints as he currently has - or pretty close to it.

And how do you know they will double his money? Its Wolves not Citeh FFS. They are hardly big spenders. The chairman's main aim is to get 17th every season.

It's a hypothetical situation. Floyd is calling a hypothetical situation 'contemptible', and you are writing him off as gone already, so I considered by question valid.

It isn't unrealistic to think he would be paid more as Wolves manager than at Reading, nor is it unreasonable to imagine he would get a multi-year contract instead of a year deal. More money and more job security (or a pay off if his tenure didn't last that long). Given that same situation, few, if any, of us could genuinely say they wouldn't move on.

Pretty sure we could quickly eradicate the job security issue by offering a longer term deal. I'd go as far as to say we could probably match the salary Wolves were offering too or bloody close to it. If those 2 issues were resolved, then IMO us fans have every right to be fcuked off with him. Like hell would Wolves offer a PL rookie a 3 yr + deal. Sorry but no chance. 18 mth deal at best.

If the TSI takeover becomes a valid reason given for McD leaving, then TSI themselves are liars as Samuelson and Madejski gave verbal reasurrances that the status-quo would be maintained as far as the back room team goes.

If that is the case, McD upping sticks and leaving before TSI have chance to offer him a new deal makes his departure at this stage even more contemptible given the great faith shown in him by the people who run the club and those who support it.

Unless it has been indicated to him if he doesn't get the team up this year he isn't in the new owners long term plans...and might not be even if he does get the team promoted. Would you be killing him for leaving if that was true?

My guess is that he's been offered the job and an improved contract from RFC and is considering his options tonight. Does he appreciate quite how much of a soul destroying place the Black Country is?

Nah sorry I don't believe that. Not with JM still around. That would not have happened. They've given a bit of cash to him in the hope we might do it this season but seems like we are more trying to build for next season but if we do it early then bonus.

Focher Having spoken to people involved with the legal side of the potential takeover over the last week, and the fact that there is a good chance it won't happen (no house viewing bullshit here), perhaps Brian wants to jump ship before the shit hits the fan at RFC.

Did you speak to them before the Burnley game? Seems unlikely that AZ would go to all the trouble of arranging a visa, spending time wandering around the stadium and be photographed enjoying the game if it weren't going ahead, doesn't it? The Sky cameras were all over him, to put himself in that position would be incredibly naive. Not to mention the money he's already invested.

McDermott to Wolves isn't the massive surprise many on here seem to think it is. They are a bigger club than us, they will give him a better contract than he's already got and he's got a third of the season still remaining to keep them up. Makes perfect sense for him to talk to them. Either way, he's in a fantastic position. More money and exposure at Wolves vs staying put at Reading and having the opportunity to take us up.

My gut instinct is that he'll go if it's offered to him. We should have shown some faith in him and rewarded his great work with a decent contract by now.
