Reading players out of contract in summer 2020

Thinking of this last Saturday's game at Derby brought back memories of untried Fosu and Stacey taking part not so long ago.
Both dropped down divisions but have fought their way back to Championship (maybe Prem next year for Fosu) and Premier respectively.

Loader may or may not do the same but based on how he has performed for Reading I am not sad to see him go as he has contributed so little.

I am a great follower of the Academy and love it when we bring young players through and give them a chance. In the case of Loader he clearly thinks he is far better than he has shown us so far and it leaves a very bad taste in my mouth that he has not even tried to make it here at the club that has spent a lot of money bringing him through the youth ranks.

When a young payer acts in this way (badly advised or not) one can only really hope he fails wherever he ends up as a lesson to those coming after him through the Academy.

Well that's not very nice.

He's only a young lad and whilst I think he's made the wrong decision I hope he finds success wherever he goes next.

Sad to see him go, had a lot of time for Danny Loader and felt he could and should have been given more of an opportunity in the first team (instead of bring played in midfield the only time he had any sort of run in the team). In the circumstances, can hardly blame him for this decision and personally expect him to do a lot better than some of the comments above predict.

Not feeling the same sentiment. This has not got the Antonio feeling about it.

No it doesn't. I mean Loader has shown he can actually trap a ball and pass to his team mates rather than spaff the ball into the crowd. Which is more than Antonio managed when he was here.

The fact he's one of the best players for West Ham says quite a bit about them.

Perhaps I am being harsh but I find the way Loader has acted over the last couple of years annoying.

Firstly the club spends a lot of money bringing players through the Academy and the young players coming through should have some loyalty to the club. Secondly it is probably a case that he has been advised badly but if he had signed a new contract I have no doubt that he would have played a lot more games for RFC. As it is when it became clear that he wanted to go the club understandably stopped giving him many opportunities. Frankly why waste further effort on him. Thirdly, the way he has acted suggests that he thinks he is far too good for the club and he has barely put in a shift when he has had a chance. 2 goals in 35 is hardly stellar!

Contrast that to say Olise who signed a 3 year extension, got his chance, put a good shift in and is now an important part of the squad.

As it is if someone like Wolves sign him he will either be in their Under 23s next season or more likely loaned out at Championship level or below anyway so what has he gained by leaving Reading when he could have played at Championship level here. He might get a few extra quid in the short term but might well damage his longer term prospects.

I suspect it is a case of his agent wanting a big chunk of a signing on fee from a PL club but IMO Loader should have seen that he would be far better off in the long run if he had signed a new deal and knuckled down at RFC and taken his chance here. Then if a bigger club came in for him later - as with the likes of Siggy, Long etc, then I am sure we would have all wished him well.

Can't help but feel a bit sad it hasn't worked out for Loader. Slightly baffled that people think he hasn't delivered - the expectations for a player who is still yet to turn 20 were unreasonably high IMO. Add in him being asked to play in different positions under different managers, of which nobody since Stam has particularly suited his style - he thrives off balls played into his feet in the area according to an expert on the English youth squads, so I can see why he impressed Stam enough I training to debut as a 16 year old.

The jump from u23 football is huge, and often suddenly clicks after being given plenty of minutes (see Calvert-Lewin at Everton - 'finally' breaking through as a top striker at 23). Loader's 400 minutes this season is pitiful so I'm not surprised he is looking for a move - "rotting away" in the reserves of a bigger club would be the exact same situation as he has faced here this season, but with a bigger pay cheque. If he wasn't going to get chances this season, he really should have been given a loan.

Also a bit confused by anyone questioning his effort or suggesting any sort of attitude - I note players including McCleary and Olise publicly praising his work ethic in training in recent weeks.

All in all, a real shame a it hasn't worked out for player who is still young enough to fulfill his potential, and unfortunately wont be able to do it at his hometown club.

I assume that the deal referred to on the RFC website is for a one year extension on the same terms. Clearly he won't sign this deal but the fact that it is on offer should mean we are in line for compensation.

The clear-out at Reading continues as 14 youngsters have been released by the club.

The news comes after Danny Loader's departure on Tuesday after he refused to sign a contract extension with Royals.


U23 players Liam Driscoll, Lexus Beeden, Andre Burley, Marcel Elva-Fountaine, Ramarni Medford-Smith, Akinwale Odimayo, Werick Caetano, Ethan Coleman, Tyler Frost, Roberto Nditi, Ben House and Adam Liddle have all been let go.

U18s duo Emmanuel Obamakinwa and Pedro Neves have also left the club at the end of their scholarships.

First-team players Vito Mannone and Adrian Popa, who have been out on loan over the past year, will not be having their contracts renewed.

Meanwhile, the five loan players have all signed short-term contract extensions for the remainder of the season.

Lucas Boye, Ovie Ejaria, Pele, Ayub Masika and Matt Miazga will all remain with the club until the end of the campaign, which is due to be on Wednesday, July 22.

Goalkeepers Coniah Boyce-Clarke, 17, and James Holden, 18, have completed paperwork on deals which will keep them at the club on professional terms.

American striker Augustus McGiff, who turns 18 today (Thursday), has signed a professional contract with Royals following the culmination of his scholarship year.

U23s forward Femi Azeez has been offered a deal for next season.

This certainly changes things. So Loader was willing to commit to a new deal after all. We have made a right mess of this since last summer.

We probably offered him a much better contract than he'd now warrant and we've still got a longer term deal on the table for him.

Really, how has he justified a decent offer? He's got 13(22) appearances and has looked shot shy and soft but with decent technique.

Yeah he's young, but you can't just handout decent contracts. He had a good scoring record at youth level. It's not just that he hasn't scored much at Championship level, he's rarely *looked* like scoring either.

He doesn't remotely look like he could lead the line and he's behind Ejaria and Olise in the hole behind a striker and never really got chosen to go wide for the first team.
