Predictions as to who will go/stay

by andrew1957 » 15 Jun 2011 15:14

Having read all the rumours I thought it might be fun if we made some predictions as to who would actually end up going and who will stay.

Long - think he will leave. If Bayern are really interested he will probably end up there, but more likely to be Newcastle or Everton.

Mills - think that despite the speculation that he will sign a new contract and stay, unless Blackburn make a ridiculous £5M plus offer - as they are reputedly also selling Samba, so will be desperate for replacements.

Hunt - think he will definitely stay. Even if Ipswich do offer 1.8M and the club agrees - I think he will refuse to move

Kebe - not sure. Hard to know what is really going on with him. Think he might just sign a new contract and stay.

Howard - think he will be gone to Pompey or Southampton depending on who offers him guaranteed football.

Federici and other keepers - really cannot see that we can keep Fed, Hamer, McCarthy and Andersen all happy. At least one will most likely go, but no idea if it will be Fed or one of the younger ones. On balance think Hamer will leave and we might just hold on to the other three. On the other hand if we get a decent offer for Fed I think we would sell – but will there be any offers?

Robson-Kanu - think he will sign a new contract and stay.

McAnuff - as above.

Anyone else fancy sticking their necks on the block and making a prediction?

I think we'll definitely lose Mills, Long and Kebe, plus one of Feds or McCarthy.

I'm terrified it'll be McCarthy who goes!

really?

that upsets me.
now is not the time for a total rebuild,
which is what we'll need if we sell all of our spine/quality players

Long sadly, Federici hopefully. Gut feeling says Kebe is off too but hoping not so.

Would you stay in a job if you could more than double your salary in one go and work for somewhere much more prestigious?

Especially if your career only lasts to your mid-30s.

I can see some of the fringe players moving on. Certainly Howard and more than likely Hamer. I too would be downbeat if McCarthy was to leave as I think that he has the ability and potential to be a top class keeper. Much will depend on how far forward the pups are. I would not lose too much sleep if Tabb moved on either.

Brenders, when will you learn that the only loyalty in football is from the supporters? How many people change employers after having a shit load of training budget spent on them?

Long is going, unfortunately that's inevitable.

I would make a bargain with the fates to lose Mills and one of Feds and McCarthy, but keep the rest.

For a prediction: we'll lose Long and two others, but keep Kebe and McAnuff.

long, howard and one of fedders/ mcarthy/ hamer

unsure about mills and kebe but i would hope the club will make sure we keep hold of them to hold the majority of the squad together.

continuity is the key for us at the moment. its almost inevitable there will be some departures (long, fedders etc) but we cant afford to let a total rebuild happen

My guess is that Long, Mills, Howard, Hamer will go in the next few weeks, Andersson in July. I have a gut feeling that Kebe will go in August. New experienced striker and new young full back to come in for modest fees. One person's guess is as good as the next though.

Les Loups have apparently shown some interest.

Long - Will go
Mills - I think he'll stay
Hunt - Will definately stay
Federici - I think he'll stay - and hes better than McCarthy
McCarthy - will stay
Kebe - unless a French team puts in an offer ( none interested at the moment) he'll definately stay
McAnuff - will stay
HRK - Will sign a new contract

Suit his style of playing better than Alimenter Ville.

* howard will go. there's better players here. he wont be missed.
* long will go. it's hard to see him staying. the money being talked about is too good to turn down. both parties happy.
* kebe will go. with one year left on his deal we will cash in. he's hinted at going. i think with a £2/3m offer we'd bite someones arm off.
* federici will go. it wont hurt. i think mccarthy is the better all round keeper. cash it if we can.

McCarthy a better all round keeper? Are you on drugs? He made a few good saves yes, but I doubt he could sustain that level for an extended period or he'd be our number one. Federici is far better in my opinion.

My opinion on this is that McCarthy is the more natural of the two and appears to read the game better. Sure, Feds is more experienced but when looking back at when Feds stepped in for Hahnemann and when Macca stepped in for Feds, I feel more confident with Macca. Either way, I can't see Hamer getting a sniff unless a plague of biblical proportions hits the Thames Valley.
