RUMOUR - Andersen to Brondby

I hope not as he's quality, but it's so hard to keep 3 goalkeepers playing and happy!

If you say so mate, so why don't all rumours go in the same thread? I'd rather give a thread to one of our current players than one who's possibly joining us and adding on news in there..

The Sun being as informative as usual ...

READING'S Danish keeper Mikkel Andersen wants to return home and sign for Brondby.

He said: "I'd love to play for them. It's a great opportunity."

Yes thats the entire article.

I could see us letting one of McCarthy and Andersen out on loan but as both have two years left on their contracts - I can see no reason why we would sell either of them unless the offer is very high.

As I cannot see Bronby paying say 2M for Andersen, if there is any truth in the Sun article at all I think it is more likely to be a 6 month loan.

It's a bit more interesting than the third choice keeper leaving tbf.

I think there may be more to this than just a Sun rumour. A friend of mine who's a big Brøndby fan said their fans are very keen on him, for some reason having been on our books makes him more of a talent.

Andersen is very highly rated out here in Denmark and I fear we'll struggle to keep hold of him if there's any truth in this at all, judging by this article in this brilliantly named Danish newspaper there may well be.

http://ekstrabladet.dk/sport/fodbold/dansk_fodbold/superligaen/broendby/article1602858.ece

Rough translation:

'Brøndby yesterday sold (ex Charlton) keeper Stephan Andersen to Evian and although theyøre not officially looking for a new keeper, one of Denmark's biggest goalkeeping talents is ready for a move....

"Brondby is something special for me, it has always been Brondby for me and I love the feeling the club can give. It would be a dream keeping goal on the South side" he said to Tips Bladet

"I would like to rebuild Brondby, although I'm young I would like to take teh lead and form the backbone of this."

A big hurdle could be the price with Reading looking for over 10million DKK (well over £1m) for the keeper.'

That's the most interesting bits, if you want more go use google translate.

Eagerly anticipating my traditional HNA welcome....

Andersen or McCarthy should go to Leeds for a bit, they're both better than what they've got!

:? Hi Simon

I'm happy for the lad to get games but why should we help out a club who we're directly in competition with? Short term risk for our long term gain?

Maybe we don't think Leeds will be fighting relegation?

This is the kind of move that some feared over the summer when it looked like Federici would stay and be number 1.

If McCarthy goes to Leeds and impresses (which I'd think is likely) then there will be a decent chance that he'll be off somewhere (perhaps Leeds) in the near future. That'd be a real shame in my book.

What a GREAT move for Reading. At the moment we have a young keeper who is stagnating in the Reading reserves, and another who is stagnating on the training pitch. At least now McCarthy can go and get experience; he'll make a few mistakes which we won't have to make for us and he'll either come back to challenge Federici stronger or will go for 10x the fee we would have got for him if he didn't go in the shop window.

Those saying 'why help out out a rival' your being short sighted; Leeds will get a good keeper even if they don't loan from us, why not Reading get some benefit out of it at the same time?!

Great move for McCarthy, great move for Andersen, great move for Reading.

Dont get me wrong, I want McCarthy to play for Reading soon, but this is a superb stop gap solution to the problem of having a talented young keeper without 1st team action in a suitable league. IMO we should be loaning Andersen to another Championship level club (here or abroad) and bring in an older keeper (Maik Taylor for example) on a short term contract to sit on the bench. If Federici gets injured we could call back whichever of McCarthy or Andersen was on the best of form.
